Spring Road Restrictions - Lifted Effective Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

The R.M. of St. Andrews follows the same start and end dates for road restrictions as Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI). (Note: The RM is in Climate Zone 1A)

Restrictions will be lifted effective May 19, 2026 (11:59pm) (MTI may change start/end dates based on weather conditions). These restrictions are implemented to help protect roads during the spring thaw as roads become soft and are more susceptible to potholes, ruts and other damage.

The R.M. of St. Andrews has implemented the following restrictions for 2026:

ALL ROADS IN THE MUNICIPALITY ARE RESTRICTED
Hard surface roads 65% of normal axle loads
Gravel roads 90% of normal axle loads
The only road not restricted is Clandeboye Road between PTH #8 and PTH #9.
The Municipality also has a 'No Truck Route By-Law' that designates certain roads as no truck routes. You can view a list of the roads and more information in By-Law No. 4273.

Guideline and restriction information for the entire Province can be found on MTI's website.

We request everyone's cooperation during the restriction period.

This past training night, members of the St. Andrews Fire Department focused on traffic control operations to ensure the safety of our firefighters, emergency personnel, and the public while working along the busy highways in our area. Proper scene management and traffic control are critical skills that help keep everyone safe during emergency responses. Proud of our team for continuing to train and prepare for every situation. 👨‍🚒

Yesterday in honour of McHappy Day at McDonalds Main Street in Selkirk, Mayor Sul was "arrested" for refusing to drive the RM Grader and placed in a cell for one hour. Thank you to all of those in the community who visited the Mayor yesterday to "pay her bail". 100 percent of the proceeds were donated to the Ronald McDonald House to support families with critically sick or injured children.

A huge shout out to the owners, directors and staff at McDonald's for making this happen. Thank you to everyone who donated, stopped by for a meal, or simply showed support.

Road Renewal Projects
There are several road renewal projects planned for this summer, please be advised that they are subject to change.

The below roads are to receive cement soil stabilization and asphalt:

Overwater Road (from Fergowin to Parkview)
Highland Drive
Kelsey Trail
Riverview Street (from Maple Ridge Dr to St. Andrews Rd)
Matrona Bay
Maple Cliff Cove (from Hay to lot 10)
Mirey Creek Drive (North, West and South)
Tanis Crescent
Donald Road (from 230 to Chamberlain Rd)
Wavey Creek Road (from tracks for 621.49m east)

The below roads are to receive asphalt:

Fergowin Road (from Overwaters to cul-du-sac)
Westman Drive (from Hansen Drive to cul-du-sac)
Davidson Place (from cul-du-sac to first intersection)
Goldstone Road (from HWY 9 to railway tracks)
River Road North (from Pruden Ave going south for 247.5m)
Second Ave (from Clandeboye Road to Municipal Street)
Tom Prince Drive (from Gimli Road south to end)
Chesley Cresent (from Four Winds west to end of excavation approx. 42m)
Donald Road (HWY 8 east covering previous culvert replacement)

Full depth reconstruction, and asphalt:

Zachary Drive

During these construction periods, local access will be maintained on the road, however, equipment may block property access for a short period of time while work is underway in front of individual properties. The gravel driveways’ elevation will be brought to match elevation of the asphalt once paving is completed. The planned work will be completed taking precautions to ensure the safety of public and property. Thank you for your cooperation.

PROVINCE ADVISES OF ALERT READY TEST TOMORROW

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Emergency Management Organization is notifying Manitobans that the national public alerting system, Alert Ready, will conduct a test of its emergency alert system.

The test will take place across multiple communication channels on Wednesday, May 6, at 1:55 p.m.

These tests ensure the Alert Ready system operates as intended during an imminent life-threatening situation. Additionally, these tests serve to increase public awareness about the Alert Ready system, how it works and what an emergency alert looks and sounds like so that Manitobans can be prepared in the event of an actual emergency.

The test alert will be broadcast on TV, radio and compatible wireless devices. Mobile alert delivery depends on several technical factors, including device compatibility, LTE network connection, cell tower coverage, and device software and settings.
For more information or to ask questions about the upcoming test alert, visit www.alertready.ca or www.gov.mb.ca/emo.
