Chestermere Women's Crisis Society - CWCS is holding 'Light the Night' 6:30 pm to 8:00pm on Saturday September 19th https://www.facebook.com/share/1BsuagfkMm/ and CHF has submitted a decorated lamp. The decopage celebrates the women who in the early days of City of Chestermere 'took care' of each other and provided a warm chain of support for each other. Here is the tag on the lamp. "Since the early days of settlement in the Chestermere area, women have supported one another through organizations such as the UFA, Red Cross and Chestermere Hall Board. They helped with family crises, baking, sewing, childcare and many other needs. They gathered in person, sometimes travelling miles over rough, rutted roads, and later stayed connected by telephone on a party line, where everyone could hear the conversations. One very long ring signalled an emergency and brought everyone to the phone. Among the women who contributed to the well-being of their neighbours were Mary Jane Brown, Jean Belyea, Jeanette Sunderland, Lida Ellis, Bessie Woods, Ethel Brown Carlyle, Veda Webster, Mabel Barker, Frances Hodgson, Joyce McElroy, Agnes McKenzie Lester and Mary Barker.
