As our rural communities become less vibrant and sustainable, as waiting times get longer in our hospitals, and as voter turnout falls to the lowest levels in history, Albertans know that something is very wrong. Albertans – whether young or old, urban or rural, labourers or professionals – have more in common than our current politicians give us credit for. While they would divide us along the po
litical spectrum and pit us against one another, we refuse to ignore our shared history and our mutual values. The Alberta Party recognizes that we need a new approach to politics. We must re-engage our citizens. We must listen to Albertans so that we can understand the challenges and pressures faced by our neighbours and develop smart, innovative and creative solutions to address these challenges. In short, we need a dramatically different approach to politics. We are starting with a surprisingly simple idea – listening to people. Our Big Listen project is designed to identify the issues that Albertans really care about. Rather than relying on polls and the pundits, we believe that having real conversations with real people will yield a better direction for our province. The Big Listen is well underway. Volunteers across the province are busy hosting small, intimate house meetings where Albertans of all political stripes can share their thoughts and ideas about making Alberta a better place to live. Everyone is invited to participate in the Big Listen! Through this simple and novel approach—listening—we are building a political party that will work for all Albertans. This is a daunting task, but if we work together, we can ensure that our province will have a new and viable option in the next election. We look forward to meeting you!
