Six weeks of Story Explorers wrapped up last night with a pizza party and a display of all the hard work that the youth and seniors put in! Six stories, six small groups, over 20 participants and an incredible amount of imagination came together to create something truly special! I’m so proud of the work of these participants, and myself! Storytelling truly can make a huge impact! I’ll be featuring some of the amazing testimonials that have come from this project over the next few weeks! A huge thank you to Shawnessy for hosting this and partnering with me!

February has been full of Love Stories! The seniors at the Manor Village Signature Park came together to tell a wonderful fantasy story that had all the makings of an epic tale; a wicked king, fire breathing dragon and of course, a knight in shining armour!

Janet was visiting her mom and got to see the magic that unfolds in Memory Care with Creative Connected Storytelling! She watched as her mom’s memories came to life throughout the program, and noted how amazing it was to see how naturally it occurred. Without asking “do you remember”, Mom’s memories of a husband who was a true handy man were coming to life as we built the characters in this group’s story, “Jim’s Red Car”.
What started as a regular visit turned into an afternoon of connection for this mother and daughter, all thanks to being a part of our CCS program.

We love hearing testimonies like this! This amazing participant brought along the two books she has published - one a memoir and the other a collection of poetry. And after participating in our CCS program, she shared that while she has considered herself a writer, she’s never thought of herself as a storyteller. She shared that her experience in the program reminded her that she is capable of using her imagination!
CCS has a way of surprising people, and has helped many move past those creative blocks we don’t even realize we’re facing!

Jane (name changed for privacy) was very hesitant to join the program. “I’ll just watch” she said, sitting at the back of the room. I encouraged Jane to come and sit closer, and that she didn’t have to do anything other than watch unless she wanted to….and within MINUTES, she was engaged. She was naming characters, laughing, and fully immersed in the storytelling. This is a great example of how individuals surprise themselves - and others - in CCS programs. Often those who are “passive” participants come alive, dive right into the process and emerge as some of our most powerful story tellers!

Creative Connected Storytelling is intentionally designed to be engaging for participants of all communication levels and styles. We encourage everyone to be a part of the story, even if you don’t speak out. After all, every great storyteller needs great listeners too! But best of all, we often find that participants will find ways to surprise you with their engagement!
