One of my challengers believes that we shouldn’t take pride in what we’ve accomplished with volunteers and City teams to revitalize this pathway in Pineridge.
The reality is, due to ward boundary changes, I’ve only represented the communities north of 16th avenue for about 4 years. Pineridge was one of the new communities in my constituency, and working with its residents this term has been an honour.
When I first heard the state of this pathway in 2023, I took immediate action alongside dedicated volunteers, like Kim and Al.
On a sunny Saturday in May, I actively participated with many community members to transform this overgrown, neglected alley into a safe, welcoming space, and the community even turned it into longest hopscotch in the City!
We cut down many overgrown trees and I personally hauled over 20 bags of garbage to the Calgary Marlborough Community Clean Up to dispose of all the waste.
I’m genuinely proud of what we achieved together that day.
Since then, I’ve continued to follow up to keep the pathway functional. In October 2024, I brought the City General Manager of Operational Services, the Director of Mobility, and the NE Parks Community Strategist on site after noticing encampments and overgrowth again, which led to this most recent follow up clean up.
Many thanks goes out the WPRT folks for not only bringing this to my attention, but for their hard work to restore this pathway for everyone to enjoy.
It’s important to know the history of the area you’re running in, and I’m proud of how we’ve transformed this overlooked community pathway over the last 2 years - and I plan to ensure that it is continued to be maintained.
