We work long hours, and often multiple jobs for little pay.
We struggle to pay the rent, which our landlords can increase however much they please. We stay in unsafe housing and relationships because we can’t afford the rent to move out. We struggle to put food on the table and access childcare – and the costs keep going up. We get ripped off and shuffled around by Employment Agencies and lack unions. We even voted for a government that promised to raise the minimum wage. Yet business lobbies and their politicians are trying to block the change we need? And it’s working. Workers have taken the fight to more than 190 cities in 33 countries and 6 continents. L.A., Seattle and San Francisco already passed laws raising wages to $15 an hour. Alberta’s new NDP government proposed to as well, but we need to fight to make sure it happens. We need to fight to ensure that wage policy in Alberta living wage goes beyond, and every worker can make a living wage. There’s work to do – but together, we know that we will win.
