Part 4 of 4: what are my thoughts on…

Business:

When businesses succeed, the entire community benefits through jobs, investment, and economic stability. Brooks is built on small local businesses. We must strengthen communication with the private sector, but stay out of its way.
Four important points for prosperity from the Chamber of Commerce are: competitiveness, partnership, healthy communities and government accountability.

Part 3 of 4: what are my thoughts on…

Population Growth:

We need: Developed, well-thought out, future proof plans. Brooks is growing very quickly. Single detached housing is a priority to attract young families who still believe in the dream of owning a home or be passed over for the next town or city that can provide that.

Economic Development:

Invest in our own infrastructure to be ready so that we can attract developers and industry. Additionally, make sure City staff have what they need to succeed at their jobs, take pride in them and work quickly. I would love to see Brooks break into the tourism industry. Brooks and region has so much to offer and be proud of.

Part 2 of 4: what are my thoughts on…

Fiscal Sustainability:

Needs vs. Wants.
I think along the lines of the boots theory. Buying cheaper things that don’t last, ends up costing more in the long run. Same as deferring maintenance and delaying projects like the treatment plant. Bandaids instead of real proper fixes… cost more. Anything new.. needs to be assessed for not only initial costs but ongoing, annual costs. We need to watch for lifestyle creep in our budget.

Municipal servicing:

What’s important to me is statistics. Who are using our services and programs and when. I don’t want to blanket cut services that help our community. It’s not just about youth and young families but seniors, programs help all of us thrive. But I would like to see a closer look at what’s being used and how helpful the programs are vs. Ongoing costs to the taxpayers.

Part 1 of 4: what are my thoughts on…

Relationship with other levels of government and decisions that may impact municipal affairs:

Collaboration, promotion of Brooks is not ever going to he a bad thing. Having Brooks be on the forefront of influential minds as a place of growth and success is what we want. Collaboration and getting our municipal government out there and attending events will further our own interests. We need a council that will do that.

Transparency and good governance:

Transparency leads to trust. A good government is an accountable government. Leave the ego and the pride at the door! Represent the City not your own agenda.

My favourite thing about Brooks is how centrally located we are. If Brooks doesn’t have what you’re looking for… pick a direction. You can reasonably drive there. Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Calgary even Edmonton or Red Deer aren’t too unreasonably far if you’re up for it. Brooks & Region has much to offer. From Lake Newell, Dinosaur Provincial Park, our awesome museum (a mini heritage park!), pool, bowling, sports such as Tae Kwon Do, and our Brooks Bandits (GO BANDITS GO!! It’s gameday) There’s something for everyone here.

We’re relatively clean and safe. Surrounded by mature trees, beautiful flowers and murals.

We have many supportive and diverse communities, non profits and what feels like non-stop events.

Let’s keep Brooks awesome.
