Thank you! Truly, thank you to each and every one of you who supported our campaign and the Brant Greens in this election. The energy I am reading today post-election isn’t just the results, it’s the reality that has set in that so many voices were missing from this election.
My goal has always been to shine a light on issues we see in our community and push for real solutions. But, to make real change, we need more voices speaking up and getting involved. We can’t wait for the government to do this for us if we actually want change.
As a candidate, I can say with my whole heart that I have done my best to fight for this community. And I’m not stopping.
To every amazing human being on our campaign team, to every volunteer, every supporter, every person who showed up, donated, given up their time, or even just had a conversation about politics this month, I really want to thank you. Your support has been incredible, and the impact we’ve made together is real!
This election was very different than the last provincial election. We are at the point in democracy where we are settling for strategic voting a lot more than the strongest candidate to represent our community. Why don’t be just work to bring more engagement and awareness? The elected government won’t do it so we need to rely on the community to mobilize.
I find the actual issue outside of our voting system not showing true representation is the lack of engagement… 44% of people voted in Brantford-Brant. That is MORE than half of people who stayed home. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a sign that people are losing hope in our democracy. But the truth is, the only way things won’t change is if we give up like we are seeing today.
For the next few years, we will have a Conservative majority government. The decisions made for our province will be primarily chosen by them. If that upsets you, I encourage you to channel that frustration into action. Did you get to know your candidates in this election? Did you support them or encourage your community on the importance of their vote? Don’t wait for the government to do this for you.
Politics can be a tough topic, but what isn’t up for debate is knowing where our taxpayer dollars are going. If you’re upset with this election’s outcome, if you feel like your government isn’t representing you then channel your complaints and get involved.
To the other candidates! I hope you sleep, eat and celebrate for all the time and energy you’ve given to your community over the last month. Joining a campaign isn’t always easy & running as a candidate takes a lot… now doing this in the winter felt near impossible but that’s just a mindset 😊 I appreciate each and every one of you and your team!
