**ASYLUM CENTER - PRESS REALESE STATEMENT FROM NICKOLAS HARPER**

GOOD DAY Bradford. Today, I inform the public that I have issued a request to defer and delay the opening of this Asylum center at 136 Barrie St. To Simcoe County and informed them that I have filed a complaint with the Ontario Ombudsman on the decision making process of purchase and program designation to this building and our town.

The centre was never asked for by the people of this community, and it is not wanted by over 150,000 local residents in the surrounding area. It should be delayed. That is the action I am taking today.

This is an election issue that will be presented and forced upon every council candidate that wishes to move forward. People should be asking their elected officials, or the ones that intend to be elected, if they will support the deferral and shutdown of this asylum centre.

People have asked why I did not do anything in the last ten months as the ward councillor. There is a couple reasons to this.

First, I never put this in motion or ever had the chance to vote on it, This is the sole responsibility of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor which are Bradfords county council representatives, they put this in motion in February 2025 up until the decision was finalized by them and the other members of county council with no vote, consultation from this municipal council, nor was their any input from the public before the sale and determination of this program to this town.

Lastly, I was under a gag order of confidentiality, I had asked questions on when this could get out to the public and was told in person to wait out until we hear more, much like the email from the CAO.

Now that this is public information, I am speaking out. That is why I have issued this complaint to the Ombudsman and asked for a stay of order to delay the opening of this asylum center.

This is another reason I am running for mayor, and as mayor, if elected I will be advocating to shutting this asylum centre down and have this addressed at Simcoe County in the new term by hopefully the full support of the New council in the new term, after this election.

Thank you

**SPECIAL POLICY ANNOUNCEMENT**

PUTTING SAFETY & RESIDENTS FIRST ACROSS BWG IS KEY FOR MAYOR CANDIDATE NICKOLAS HARPER

As our community grows, our approach to leadership must adapt. Today, I am proud to roll out two major points of my platform for Mayor that focus on responsible infrastructure and protecting our children focused on the residents living here now.

Point 1: Line 8 Redevelopment & Traffic Relief

•Preserving 3 Lanes (Noble Drive to Northgate Drive): I fought at Council to ensure staff re-evaluate the four-lane expansion and review maintaining 3 lanes leading up to Barrie Street. This protects neighborhood integrity and avoids unnecessary encroachment while keeping traffic moving.

•Proven Leadership for Ward 6 & BWG: Real leadership means listening to residents, asking tough questions, and delivering actionable results.

•Complete Infrastructure & Active
Transportation: Full-depth road reconstruction paired with continuous multi-use trails, wide sidewalks, and modern LED lighting for pedestrian and driver safety.

•Smart Traffic Control: Upgrading key intersections with smart traffic signals and dedicated turning lanes to stop neighborhood shortcutting.

Point 2: Town-Wide Safe Schools Area Bylaw - NEW

•Mandatory Physical Traffic Calming: We are going beyond basic signage. Every school zone in BWG will require concrete traffic mitigation tools near school grounds—including speed humps, protective bollards, road narrowing, and raised crosswalks.

•Explore Standardized speed Zones in school areas: Enforcing standardized speed limits supported by automated during school hours.

•Review Pick up and Drops at schools.

"Safety isn't just a talking point to me, it's personal. It's about your kids, my kids, and our kids having a safe future everyday they go to school, and families living here now deserve this."
— Nickolas Harper

ACTION - OUR HOME - OUR BRADFORD

Today I respectfully launch my Campaign Platform and highlight key areas of how we need to Make Bradford a better and safer place to live for all of us.

We have come really far in the last 80 days, and as of today we have 60 days remaining till final election day on October 26, 2026.

If you want change, if you want new leadership. I need your help to bring the change we need to Bradford, I need your vote, and if you like, put up a HARPER lawn sign.

We need to send a clear strong message that this is Our Home, Our Bradford.

Even if you don't want the drama of a lawn sign, but you still want to support quietly, I understand and totally respect that. There's friendships involved, businesses to protect, but the quiet majority is also needed and where we will make the difference.

There will always be people looking to attack me or start drama, speculation or something to argue about. Lately that has turned personal, slander given at the door without proper context, and my family has already been pulled into it. That will likely continue over the next couple of months. I also urge everyone to not get sucked into the Race baiting or make racists comments. That feeds into their agenda. We dont need to do that, we have a very solid argument. We are tax payers and we get to have a say on what we need, want and wish to have happen in our town.

I will not attack any candidate personally. I will hold them accountable professionally. That is the difference.

My focus is YOU. The hard working residents who make this town what it is, and who want Bradford to be the place it should be. Lower Property taxes, Accountability at Simcoe County, Safer streets. Real results, Real Amenities. Constructive conversations about how we get there.

Over the next coming weeks I will be engaging in public coffee and conversations or get togethers like the Meet & Greet the Mayor Candidate I have coming at Bradford Eyecare on
September 17, 6 to 8pm, 107 Holland Street East.

Meet & Greets have been what I have been doing yearly as Councillor and will continue to do that even when I am elected as Mayor.

I am always available to talk, meet up and have the conversation. Message me, email or visit nickolasharper.ca.

Thank you to everyone for your support, volunteer help, and standing with me to ensure our voice is heard. That is how change happens. Let's press on these next 60 days and get this done Bradford.

This is our home. This is our Bradford. This is your chance to meet and greet a mayoral candidate who wants to serve you...

Inside with Nickolas Harper for Mayor – Part 8

It is official.

I am a nominated candidate for Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

I am running because this is our town. This is our home. I want a safer, stronger, more accountable Bradford for my kids and for every family who lives here.

My goals are clear:

•Restore real accountability at Town Hall
•Protect taxpayers and push back on unnecessary tax pressure from county level.
•Shut down the asylum centres that are forced on us in bwg.
•Bring local amenities without dumping the full cost on residents
•Keep growth responsible so farmland and our community character are protected
•Deliver results on infrastructure, traffic, parks, and public safety the same way I have as Councillor

Heres what I said the reasons why I ran for mayor...

This is our Bradford. This is our home.
