🥬 Kale is Gary’s choice! 🥬

When it comes to mealtime, Gary the Groundhog knows exactly what he wants—and today, it’s a bowl full of fresh kale! 😋🌿

Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks, are primarily herbivores. Their natural diet consists mostly of grasses, leaves, clover, flowers, and other vegetation. They may also munch on fruits and vegetables when available. With all that grazing, it’s no surprise Gary has developed a particular appreciation for his leafy greens! 🐹💚

Sometimes the simplest meals are the best meals—especially when they’re Gary-approved! 🥬

👅🐍 Tongue Out Tuesday with Simon! 🐍👅

Simon the hognose snake is showing off his adorable forked tongue! 😍

But did you know that a snake’s tongue is actually an important tool for exploring the world around them? When Simon flicks his tongue, he’s collecting tiny scent particles from the air and ground. Those particles are delivered to a special organ in the roof of his mouth called the Jacobson’s organ, helping him “smell” and gather information about his surroundings. 👃🐍

So while Simon might look like he’s just sticking his tongue out for the camera, he’s actually doing some very important investigating! 🔎

🌿 Where can a passion for wildlife take you?

Soper Creek Wildlife is excited to introduce Pathways to the WILD, a new career-exploration presentation created for students in Grades 7–12!

Students will discover careers in wildlife rehabilitation, animal care, zoology, veterinary services, conservation, environmental science, education, nonprofit leadership and more. We’ll also explore the education, practical experience and workplace skills needed to turn an interest in animals and wildlife into a successful career.

Drawing on our experience mentoring youth and supporting field-placement students from the University of Guelph and Durham College, our team provides an honest, firsthand look at:

🌲 College and university pathways
🦉 Volunteering and field placements
🔬 Wildlife and environmental careers
📚 Course selection and résumé building
🤝 Workplace expectations and essential skills
🧭 Practical steps students can begin taking now
