Some people spend their lives accepting the world as it is.
Others spend their lives asking why it cannot be different.
Gloria Steinem was one of those voices.
For more than six decades, she stood alongside women in challenging the systems, expectations, and inequalities that shaped their lives. She helped bring conversations about women’s rights out of the margins and into homes, workplaces, communities, politics, and public consciousness.
Her work was part of a movement that dared to imagine something different — a world where women could have greater freedom over their bodies, their futures, their work, their relationships, and their place in society.
The world women live in today is different because generations before us refused to accept that inequality was simply the way things had to be.
Gloria was one of those women.
Her passing is a moment to honour how far the women’s movement has come, while recognizing how much work remains.
Rights can be won.
Systems can be challenged.
Culture can change.
And voices once pushed to the margins can become powerful forces for change.
Today, we honour Gloria Steinem — and all those who continue the unfinished work of building a more equal and just world for everyone.
