This morning the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue received a donation from Hebron offshore (Exxonmobil Canada) in the amount of $10,000. The donation is a result of "Noboby get hurt" safety program on the Hebron platform which encourages workers to look out for eachother and record both safe and unsafe acts. Thank you to Andrew Bradbury for making the nomination and the crew on Hebron for selecting us. We certainly appreciate your support.

Take the time to thank a volunteer you know that is there day or night to help your community. Us as Search and Rescue members are there when that call comes in to help assist and find that loved one that hasn't came home on time. To bring them home safely we dont rest until you can rest. 10am, 3pm, 1am. It doesn't matter we are there to respond to that call. We do training either in person or virtal to keep up it and staying updated and prepared. Being volunteer week I cant thank all SAR teams enough for what they do but most of all our team. Thank you for being there and ready.

For us, every week is about Ground Search and Rescue volunteers in Canada. But during National Volunteer Week (April 19–25, 2026), we take a moment to celebrate them as a collective.

This year aligns with Ignite Volunteerism: A year-long, nation-building celebration—a once-in-a-generation opportunity to recognize the power of civic participation and renew Canada’s culture of volunteering.

Ignite Volunteerism is a movement highlighting those who step up, strengthening volunteerism nationwide, and celebrating the stories that define our sector. As we mark SARVAC’s 30th anniversary, we are especially proud to recognize the GSAR volunteers who continue to ignite change and make our work possible.

A message from our SARVAC President to our volunteers:
"On behalf of SARVAC, thank you for your continued commitment and contribution. Our progress and reputation are built on the reliability and integrity of our volunteers, and SARVAC's 9000+ volunteers are second-to-none. We are stronger, and more effective, because of you."
— Janelle Coultes, SARVAC President

— Janelle Coultes, présidente de l'ACVRS

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK STARTS TODAY
(April 19th)

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is recognizing National Volunteer Week from April 19 to 25, 2026, highlighting the important role volunteers play in communities across the province.

This year’s theme, “Igniting Volunteerism”, emphasizes the need to remove barriers so more people can participate in volunteer activities and feel a stronger sense of connection within their communities.

Minister Joedy Wall joined the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador to mark the occasion with an official proclamation signing.

Volunteerism continues to be a vital part of life throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, supporting communities in a wide range of ways. Officials expressed appreciation for the contributions made by volunteers, recognizing the time, care, and effort they dedicate to helping others.

The week serves as an opportunity to celebrate those contributions while encouraging more people to get involved in volunteer efforts across the province.

Had a memeber give me this old compass article that was back in 2017. While reviewing it I had remembered that I also had a compass and was dated in 2016. A volunteer team that has continued training so we are ready for our next call. No matter where you are going always tell someone your plan and time you are expected to return. Always remember to stay safe.
