Our flags are at half mast as we mourn the senseless killings in Tumbler Ridge, BC. As an educator and as a parent, there are no words to describe the horror of this tragedy.

Prayers are with those affected, including those who will be forever scarred by these events.

The Town of Arnprior joins Canadians in mourning those lost in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia and extending our sincere sympathies to the families, friends and neighbours of those affected. Flags at Town Hall will be lowered to half-mast until February 17th as the nation mourns with the community.

The Town of Arnprior 2026 Budget was adopted February 2nd, 2026. The process to adoption included public consultations on December 3, 2025, budget proposal by the Mayor on January 12, 2026, and budget deliberations on February 2, 2026.

The 2026 Budget was adopted with a 3.00% municipal tax rate increase, which will generate an additional $390,000 of revenue to help support increasing operating costs and capital investment. This increase helps address inflationary pressures along with supporting growth needs for effective service delivery. The Town’s strong commitment to our “pay-as-you-go” financial model allows for general additional contributions to reserves to help support the Town’s strategic goals for asset management, while still investing in infrastructure renewal and community initiatives.

Mayor Lisa McGee stated “The 2026 budget process was collaborative and generated a budget that supports service delivery, addresses growth needs, infrastructure renewal and generates savings for the future.”

The 2026 capital budget undertakes some exciting new projects, including:
• Construction of a Dog Park at McLean Park;
• Revitalization of the Skate Park at a new location beside the Nick Smith Centre;
• Construction of a multi-use path along Madawaska Blvd including streetscape;
• Robert Simpson Park Revitalization (Phase 1A) which includes landscaping, pathways, new play structure, swings and splashpad.

This year will also see continued work on major infrastructure projects including:
• Daniel St sanitary sewer upsizing and Albert St full reconstruction including sanitary sewer upsizing and separation.
• Replacement of the Water Filtration Plant Clearwell #1.
• Design of the future reconstruction of Third Avenue.
