Applications for the Kim Wry Bursary are now open!

Members of the Zonta Club of Amherst Area look forward to joining Easter Seals Nova Scotia and the Rotary Club of Amherst in supporting two women (19 years +) from Cumberland County to attend Camp Tidnish with its wonderful programs for individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

Kim Wry was instrumental in forming the Zonta Club of Amherst Area, was a charter member, and was the club’s first president. Sadly, Kim passed away at a young age. The Kim Wry Bursary was organized to honour Kim’s contribution to the Zonta Club and women in Cumberland County.

The Honourable Tory Rushton making the announcement and Bethany McCormick on behalf of NSH. I was there representing the Cumberland Health Care Foundation. This is exciting news for health care in Northern Nova Scotia and our area.

All of a sudden we are in the second week of January - wow that went fast.

Some activities happening this weekend include:

Friday, January 10th:

Chase the Ace at the Legion from 6:00 to 8:00 Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, Amherst, NS. and

The Grey Cup of Curling begins at the Amherst Curling Club Friday night. This Grey Cup is the original Grey Cup from 1907 and teams play in Amherst to have their names etched on it. Amherst Curlers and friends

Saturday, January 11th:

Music at the Mall Arts and Entertainment Centre with the band Second Toe from 1:00 to 3:00 PM

Open Mic at Duncan's Pub & Catering 2:30 to 5:00 PM

Ramblers Hockey Game at 7:00 PM

There will also be continuous play throughout the day for the Grey Cup at the Amherst Curling Club. They will have a schedule on their page soon.

Sunday, January 12th:

Ramblers Hockey Game at 2:00 PM at the stadium

Dance at the Legion from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.

This morning is the monthly breakfast at Masonic Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 AM.

The Masons are celebrating 200 years of existence in Amherst. Therefore the pancake and sausage breakfast will be $2.00. Part of the proceeds go to ARHS grads that help serve.

Congratulations to the local Masons and thank you to the students of ARHS. Hope everyone can come out and support these two groups.
