Good luck this weekend, Jamie!
We are all cheering you on in your support of mental health.
This year, Jamie MacNeil, Chief of the Penetanguishene Fire Department, is walking Mental Health in Motion in full bunker gear. Why? Because mental health affects everyone. It impacts our families, our friends, our colleagues, and our communities. As a leader in fire service, Jamie recognizes the platform he has to help start conversations and challenge stigma.
"Everybody has mental health challenges. Sometimes it gets worse, sometimes it gets better. People need to realize that it's okay to talk about it."
While the burden of bunker gear can be seen, the burden of mental illness often cannot. Walking in full gear is physically demanding, weighing up to 80lbs, and is a visual reminder of the invisible weight that many people carry every day while struggling with their mental health.
By taking on this challenge, he hopes to shine a light on those who may be suffering in silence and remind them that they don't have to carry the weight alone.
Join us this Saturday at Mental Health in Motion as we walk together to raise awareness, inspire conversations, and support mental health in our communities.
