The Boteti District Council, through the Social and Community Development Department, Home Economics Division, successfully conducted a five-day Food Catering: Platters & Salads Training Programme from 27–31 July 2026 in Rakops Village, empowering community members with practical catering and entrepreneurship skills.

The competency-based training brought together thirteen (13) participants from Rakops, Mopipi, Toromoja, Moreomaoto, Makalamabedi and Kedia, who gained hands-on knowledge in food safety and hygiene, platter and salad preparation, food presentation, menu planning, food costing, customer service, and basic business management.

On 31 July 2026, the participants received words of encouragement from Boteti District Council Chairperson, Onkhuparetse Monnaatsie, and Council Secretary, Mpaphi Kgomotso, who commended them for embracing the opportunity to acquire valuable skills that can improve their livelihoods and create employment opportunities. They encouraged participants to put the knowledge gained into practice and explore entrepreneurship opportunities within the catering industry.

The leadership was joined by Councillor Lekanyang Johane, Councillor Catherine Bosele, Councillor Comfort A. Robert, and Kgosi Ditshego Ramakhubu of Rakops, demonstrating a shared commitment to community empowerment and skills development.
The training programme forms part of Boteti District Council's ongoing efforts to equip communities with marketable skills that promote self-employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable household income generation.

BOTETI DISTRICT COUNCIL CELEBRATES ANOTHER MILESTONE

Khwee Community Ranch Officially Handed Over

Boteti District Council, in partnership with Debswana's Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM), has officially handed over the Khwee Community Ranch, a project aimed at strengthening food security, improving livestock production, and creating sustainable livelihoods for the people of Khwee.

The project was made possible through a joint investment of over P5 million, with Debswana contributing of P2.7 million and Boteti District Council investing P3,325,00.00 million.

As part of ongoing efforts to safeguard livestock and prevent the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), all vehicles entering Khwee Village were disinfected, and visitors passed through footbaths before accessing the village. These strict biosecurity measures underscored the importance of protecting Botswana's livestock industry and reinforced the community's commitment to animal health and sustainable livestock production.

Speaking during the ceremony, OLDM General Manager Mr Mogakolodi Maoketsa reaffirmed Debswana's commitment to sustainable community development. At the same time, Boteti District Council Secretary, Mr Mpaphi Kgomotso, and Council Chairperson, Hon. Onkhuparetse Monnaatsie, encouraged the community to take ownership of the ranch and ensure its long-term success.

The Khwee Community Ranch is expected to improve household food security, create income-generating opportunities, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Khwee Village through a strong partnership between Boteti District Council, Debswana, and the community.
