The Ministry is mandated to provide leadership and overall policy development, strategy, and standards in higher education and skills development. The ministry provides a diverse, accessible, inclusive, transformative higher education and skills development ecosystems that ensure a knowledgeable and globally competitive workforce.

LAND TRIBUNAL

The Land Tribunal is a specialized court created in terms of the Land Tribunal Act No.4 of 2014.It is empowered to hear and determine appeals arising from decisions of Land Boards in terms of Sections 14 and 40 of the Tribal Land Act (Cap: 32:02).

The Land Tribunal mandate was expanded in 2013 to include jurisdiction to hear and determine planning appeals from decisions of Physical Planning Committees of District Councils in terms of Sections 27, 32 and 33 of the Town and Country Planning Act. (Cap 32:09). It also adjudicates over applications for enforcement by public bodies in terms of Section 7(3) of the Land Tribunal Act.

MINISTRY OF JUSTICE AND CORRECTIONAL SERVICES
The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services was established through Government Gazette No. 742 of 12th November 2024, following the rationalisation of portfolio responsibilities. The Ministry is responsible for policy development, strategic leadership, and oversight on justice-related matters. This includes the provision of judicial and legal services, civil and criminal justice, administrative justice, protection and promotion of human rights, as well as the promotion of alternative dispute resolution. Ultimately, the Ministry aims to ensure compliance with and respect for the rule of law in Botswana, creating a just and law-abiding nation with an accessible and fair system of justice for all.

ETHICS AND INTEGRITY DIRECTORATE
The Ethics and Integrity Directorate is responsible for promoting and reinforcing integrity and accountability in public office by receiving and analysing declarations of interests, income, assets and liabilities declarations of certain categories of persons; and verifying information contained in such declarations in order to detect corruption, money laundering or the acquisition of property from proceeds of any other offence.

Areas of Responsibility:
The Ethics and Integrity Directorate (EID) was established by section 4 of the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act, No. 12 of 2019, as amended by Act No. 1 of 2020. The Directorate started its operations in January 2020, and has been receiving declarations since February 2020.
The asset declaration system requires specified categories of persons to make periodic declarations of their interests, income, assets and liabilities. The Directorate is thus responsible for the safe custody of the declarations for monitoring purposes. In addition, the Directorate builds a national culture of ethical conduct and prevents unethical behaviour in public office by developing and promoting a Code of Ethics, standards and best practices for ethical conduct.

Divisions:
The Directorate is headed by a Director-General and a Deputy Director General. It has two (2) major Divisions, each headed by a Director these being:
-Monitoring and Legal Enforcement and
-Asset Declaration and Management.

INDUSTRIAL COURT
It is a Court of Law and Equity, created by Section 14 of the Trade Disputes Act No.6 of 2016. The Court has exclusive jurisdiction in all labour disputes and ranks equal to the High Court in its status and power. Its judgments are appealable to the Court of Appeal.

The Court has three divisions in Gaborone, Francistown and Maun. There are also Circuits Courts held around the country for ease of accessibility to Court services.
