On the invitation of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Botswana took part in the Youth Leadership Training Programme.

As part of the programme, participants were shown the Ukrainian documentary: “2000 Metres to Andriivka” by Oscar-winning director Mstyslav Chernov.

After the screening, Ambassador of Ukraine Dr Oleksiy Syvak answered the thoughtful and pertinent questions of the young participants.

The Embassy thanks the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung for the invitation and the opportunity to share this important story with Botswana’s emerging leaders.

September 9 marks an important milestone in the history of the African continent. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sends its warmest greetings to the African Union as it continues to unite nations for peace, development, and prosperity.

Ukraine greatly values its relations with the African Union and remains fully open to expanding dialogue at all levels. We firmly believe that addressing today’s global challenges requires joint and decisive action.

Ukraine has been and remains a guarantor of global food security, including for millions of people in Africa. We call on the AU to join peace efforts to ensure secure, uninterrupted Black Sea food supply routes.

Furthermore, we stand ready for practical engagement, sharing our experience in humanitarian demining, civil protection, crisis management, and the documentation of war crimes.
Together, we can build a safer and more resilient world!

🇺🇦 🇧🇼 On September 8, Ambassador Dr. Oleksiy Syvak had a meeting with Mr. Al Hassan Bouzeliffa, Special Advisor in Strategic Investment and Envoy of the President of the Republic of Botswana.

At the meeting Special Advisor Bouzeliffa presented an Investment Book of various joint partnerships of Botswana and Ukraine in food and agriculture, medical and diagnosis , machinery, mining, tourism and hospitality, logistics, processing, green energy both in
Botswana and SADC region.

With our joint focus on strengthening cooperation of Ukraine with regional partners in Southern Africa we agreed to launch promotion campaign among the Ukrainian business community.

📚 Strengthening cultural ties through literature

The Embassy of Ukraine was pleased to donate a selection of books by renowned Ukrainian author Andriy Kurkov to Alliance Française de Gaborone.

Ambassador of Ukraine, H.E. Dr. Oleksiy Syvak, highlighted that these books will give readers in Botswana an opportunity to learn more about Ukraine through the work of one of its most internationally recognised contemporary writers.

Alliance Française de Gaborone and its director Mrs. Anne-Charlotte Monneret have been a valued partner of the Embassy in promoting cultural exchange and dialogue, and we greatly appreciate our cooperation.

On 4 September 2026, Ambassador of Ukraine, H.E. Dr. Oleksiy Syvak, delivered remarks at the summit of Southern Africa Youth Peace & Economic Development - saypeds 2026.

Held under the theme “Peace, Policy and Prosperity: Empowering Youth for a Secure and Inclusive Southern Africa,” the summit provided a platform for stakeholders to engage on issues affecting young people and explore strategies to promote peace, inclusive development and youth empowerment across the region.

In his speech, the Ambassador noted the unbreakable human spirit that drives the development and special role of youth on the path of progress.

Ambassador Syvak presented the projects and pilot-programmes that involve Youth Councils of both Ukraine and Botswana and also young professionals who see one another not as competitors for scarce opportunity but as partners in shared destiny.

Speaking about the fight of the people of Ukraine, the Ambassador said: “Four and a half years of war has taught my country one final truth I want to leave with you: peace is never a gift given to people. It is a discipline practiced by people. It requires cross-border solidarity even for nations thousands of kilometers apart. It brings resilience translated directly into economic empowerment”.
