Under the 58-year rule of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), which ended in October 2024, Botswanaโs health sector expanded significantly in physical infrastructure and celebrated global acclaim for its world-class HIV/AIDS response, among other achievements.

Procured and distributed COVID-19 vaccines nationwide, successfully vaccinating a large portion of the target population.
* Rapidly scaled up local laboratory testing capacity and secured accreditations during health emergencies.
* Maintained a national supplementary feeding program targeting school children and vulnerable groups at health facilities (Tsabana/Malutu/cooking oil).

We have established the Botswana Public Health Institute, a pivotal stride toward advancing public health, research, and innovative solutions.
* The Government through Botswana Development Corporation, also invested in Indus Health Care which is a 54-bed start-up hospital in 2019. The hospital is contributing significantly to the healthcare requirements of Francistown and surrounding areas, having played a significant role in the fight against Covid-19.
