PLAY TODAY, SHINE TOMORROW!

Children in Motshegaletau yesterday celebrated International Day of Play 2026 with a day full of laughter, learning and fun under the theme "Protect Play, Protect Childhood."

Through activities such as egg races, number identification and clay moulding, children experienced the joy of play while developing important social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills.

Speaking at the event,Principal Home Economics Officer I, Ms. Ketshoge Wright emphasized that play is not merely recreation but a fundamental right and a powerful tool for children's learning, growth and well being. She encouraged parents, caregivers, educators and communities to create safe and inclusive spaces where children can play, learn and thrive. She also highlighted the importance of preserving traditional games such as Diketo, Morabaraba, Mmele and Kgati as part of Botswana's cultural heritage.

By protecting play, we protect childhood and invest in healthier, happier and more resilient future generations.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Excel Books Store, Cold Room Wholesale,The Pond and Thuso Wholesale for making this celebration possible.
