ZAMBIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO HIGH-INTEGRITY GLOBAL CARBON MARKETS AT COP 30 IN BELEM, BRAZIL
Belem, Brazil – November 12, 2025-The Republic of Zambia, represented by the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Hon. Mike Elton Mposha, MP, announced its full endorsement and membership in the Coalition on Growing Carbon Markets (CGCM) during a COP30 high-level event held at the Singapore Pavilion in Belém, Brazil.
Minister Mposha affirmed that Zambia views the high-integrity carbon market as a pivotal catalyst for mobilizing climate finance, accelerating the delivery of the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets, and unlocking inclusive green growth.
“Zambia is proud to endorse the Shared Principles for High-Integrity Carbon Credit Use and to join this progressive Coalition,” Minister Mposha stated. “We strongly believe that a well-functioning market makes a significant contribution in raising climate ambition and is an important source of innovative financing that spurs economic growth.”
The Minister highlighted Zambia’s recent adoption of its National Carbon Market Framework, which has now been converted into robust legislation and regulations.
The enabling policy environment provides a predictable and transparent process, positioning the country to attract private investment into high-impact mitigation projects that benefit both people and the planet.
Minister Mposha further emphasized the importance of trust and transparency, noting that Zambia, as a country implementing both Article 6 Cooperative Approaches and Voluntary Carbon Market frameworks, shares the Coalition’s vision to strengthen its elements across global carbon markets.
“The synergies between our philosophy of the carbon market and the principles of this Coalition are clear. Our bilateral agreements with like-minded countries have also enhanced our credibility in the market as a trusted partner,” he added.
In closing, the Minister called on other countries to consider joining the Coalition, expressing confidence in its success under the leadership of Co-Chair countries such as Singapore, Kenya, and the United Kingdom.
“You can count on Zambia as a reliable and committed member,” concluded Mr Mposha.
The Coalition on Growing Carbon Markets (CGCM) comprises member countries including Co-Chairs Kenya, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, alongside France, Panama, Canada, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Peru, Switzerland, and the newest member, Zambia.
