The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam reiterates that Taiwan has never been subordinate to the People’s Republic of China. The fact that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not subordinate to each other is a long-standing objective reality and is widely recognized by the international community. Taiwan’s existence, democratic system, and free way of life are enduring realities. China’s repeated attempts to invoke United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and deliberately misinterpret it as authorizing the People’s Republic of China to represent Taiwan are not only inconsistent with the original intent of the resolution, but also incapable of altering the reality of Taiwan’s existence and democratic development.
The Chinese Embassy continues to restrict Taiwan’s international participation through political pressure, diplomatic coercion, and intimidating rhetoric, while attempting to distort facts and mislead international opinion through political propaganda. Such actions do nothing to foster mutual understanding or trust. It is regrettable that the Embassy has even presumed to speak on behalf of others by unilaterally claiming that they subscribe to its so-called “one-China principle.” Such conduct neither respects the positions of the parties concerned nor changes the objective reality of Taiwan’s existence and democratic development.
This Office has consistently promoted Taiwan-Brunei exchanges in a pragmatic, professional, and mutually respectful manner. Regarding the Embassy’s unfounded allegations concerning the screening of the documentary “A Chip Odyssey”, which highlights Taiwan’s semiconductor development, and the “Rosewood Life Education Concert” organized by this Office, these activities were conducted openly and transparently and have contributed positively to mutual understanding and interaction between the peoples of Taiwan and Brunei. The Chinese Embassy’s attempt to politicize normal exchanges and level unfounded accusations against Taiwan runs counter to the international community’s calls for rational dialogue, peace, stability, and constructive engagement. The facts speak for themselves, and the international community is fully capable of making its own judgment.
Taiwan remains a responsible member of the international community and will continue to deepen cooperation with partners in a rational, constructive, and pragmatic manner. Intimidation and pressure against Taiwan will neither change Taiwan’s democratic and free way of life nor prevent Taiwan from maintaining normal exchanges and cooperation with the international community.
