However, our good wishes to all women should be accompanied by a strong and concrete commitment to defend and promote women's rights in our daily life. We, as European Socialists, call on Member States and on the European Institutions to step up their fight to ensure that women can act freely, have democratic rights, equal access to opportunities and services, and are treated fairly 🌹

🌹 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN ITALY 🎉

« È una vittoria trionfale ! » according to Enrico Letta, leader of the Democratic Party. The party has clearly won the municipal elections held on the 17th and 18th of October.

Roberto Gualtieri won in Rome, and Stefano Lo Russo won in Turin, joining Milan, Naples, and Bologna, won in the first round.

As for the provincial capitals, the centre-left won in Caserta, Cosenza, Latina, Isernia, Ravenna, Rimini, Salerno, Savona, Carbonia and Varese, while the centre-right won in Benevento, Grosseto, Novara and Pordenone.

However, considering the relatively low turnout, this very good result for the center left needs to be celebrated with caution, and understood partly as a result of fragmentation on the right.

This weekend the first plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe officially kicks off. MEPs, civil society, national parliamentarians and citizens will gather together in Strasbourg to debate the direction our Union should take.

Hier, la société PES du Collège d’Europe a eu le plaisir d’accueillir Raphaël Glucksmann, député européen français (S&D), venu répondre aux questions des étudiant.e.s du College of Europe.

Cette rencontre fut l’occasion de discuter du rôle de l’Union européenne face à la situation des Ouïghours en Chine, du devoir de vigilance des entreprises ou encore du rôle des réseaux sociaux dans les campagnes de mobilisation.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧Today on we praise all those who have the courage to stand up for who they are, no matter the prejudice and the stigma, and in turn inspire others to do the same.

We cannot praise enough the tireless work of individuals who put people before hate and who fought hard so that equality is more than a word, but a reality. Every day, they make our society more free and open to the beauty of our differences.

Today we say it loud and clear! Socialists and Democrats will always be allies. We will always be on your side to fight for your right to choose whom you love, the right to be who you want to be, the right to form a family, to have a voice.

On , like every day, we stand with workers for their rights ✊

During the last year, we’ve seen the COVID-19 heroes working tirelessly to keep our societies afloat.

At the same time, many citizens have worked isolated from home, while many others have not worked at all. This has made the need for quality jobs for all even more urgent.

As S&Ds we’ll keep fighting to make sure every worker has access to:

💶 higher minimum wages
💪 online and offline protection
💻 the right to disconnect
⚖ equal pay for equal job.

On Labour Day we reaffirm our commitment to do so: For all workers of Europe!
