Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Bangladesh since 1991 in disaster risk management and early recovery, climate resilience and food security and livelihoods. IRW works in an integrated and inclusive manner directly at the household, community, district and national levels targeting the most disaster-affected and impoverished communities.
In Bangladesh, there has been a shift to anticipatory actions for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). However, early warning (EW) systems alone do not prevent hazards turning into disaster. Early action (EA) is essential to mitigate impact. Together, EW and EA can save lives and livelihoods, reduce vulnerability, and increase resilience. In line with this, a consortium based project titled as Supporting Flood Forecast-based Action and Learning in Bangladesh-SUFAL has been implementing in three flood-prone districts in northern Bangladesh. The project consortium comprises CARE Deutschland e.V.(CARE DE), Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW), Concern Worldwide (CWW) - and their operational offices in Bangladesh - technical partner Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES), and CWW's implementing partner in Bangladesh, Assistance for Social Organisation and Development (ASOD) and CARE UK for technical support in project implementation.
