High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed paid a courtesy call on Afroza Khanam, MP, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner warmly congratulated the Minister on her appointment as the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and expressed interest in further enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Bangladesh in the areas of tourism and aviation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed potential collaboration in tourism promotion, including opportunities for investments in tourism development initiatives. They also expressed a shared commitment to fostering sustainable growth in the tourism sector and strengthening long-term partnerships that contribute to the mutual economic progress of both countries.

Discussions further highlighted the opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the aviation sector aiming to sustain and strengthen air connectivity and improving operational collaboration between the Maldives and Bangladesh.

High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed paid a courtesy call on Shama Obaed Islam MP, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

They held a warm and constructive exchange on further strengthening the longstanding 🇲🇻–🇧🇩 partnership, with discussions focusing on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, as well as in key sectors such as health, education and connectivity, alongside broader regional collaboration on issues of mutual interest.

Recalling the recent official visit of His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to Bangladesh, the High Commissioner underscored the importance of sustained high-level engagement in advancing shared priorities and unlocking new avenues for collaboration.

The High Commissioner also conveyed appreciation for the continued support of the Government of Bangladesh in human resource development, and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Bangladeshi migrant worker community to the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

On Bangladesh’s Independence Day, I am delighted to convey heartfelt greetings of the day to HE President Mohammed Shahabuddin, HE Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Government and the friendly people of Bangladesh. I have no doubt that the celebrations of this momentous day in Bangladesh’s history, one that so deeply underscores freedom and hope for the future, will be a source of motivation for all Bangladeshis to strive for the continued betterment of their country.

The Maldives considers Bangladesh a trusted neighbour and development partner. Our close people-to-people exchanges have long defined our partnership and contributed to our mutual progress, and I am pleased to reflect on the positive work we have been doing to strengthen our cooperation.
