রোগীর পরিবার জানতোই না, তাকে রাতে সাপে কামড়েছে। রাত ২টা থেকে রোগীর গলায় ব্যথা ও বারবার অবচেতন হয়ে যাওয়ার উপসর্গ দেখা দেয়। অবশেষে বুধবার সকাল ৭টায় রোগীকে আশঙ্কাজনক অবস্থায় লামা উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সের জরুরি বিভাগে আনা হয়। দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত উপসহকারী কমিউনিটি মেডিকেল অফিসার রোগীকে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ভর্তি করেন।
সকাল ১০টায় রুটিন ডিউটিতে আবাসিক মেডিকেল অফিসার উপস্থিত হয়ে রোগীর উপসর্গ দেখে অনুমান করেন, এটি সাপে কামড়ানোর ঘটনা হতে পারে। তিনি রোগীর স্বজনদের বিছানার আশপাশে খুঁজে দেখতে বলেন। পরে রোগীর বিছানার বালিশের নিচে মৃত অবস্থায় একটি বিষধর সাপ পাওয়া যায়, যা ছিল ‘চাইনসোয়ে’ (স্থানীয় নাম)।
সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সাপে কাটার চিকিৎসা শুরু করা হয়। ততক্ষণে রোগীর হৃদপিণ্ড প্রায় ৭০% অকার্যকর হয়ে গিয়েছিল। এরপর লামা হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসক, উপসহকারী মেডিকেল অফিসার এবং নার্সদের টানা তিন ঘণ্টার প্রচেষ্টায় রোগীকে সুস্থ অবস্থায় ফিরিয়ে আনা সম্ভব হয়।
এই ঘটনা লামা হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসকদের মানবিকতা ও দক্ষতার এক উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত হয়ে থাকলো।
The patient's family had no idea that he had been bitten by a snake during the night. From 2 a.m., he began experiencing throat pain and repeatedly lost consciousness. Eventually, at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, the patient was brought to the emergency department of Lama Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition. The on-duty Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer immediately admitted the patient.
At 10 a.m., the Residential Medical Officer arrived for his routine duty and, upon observing the symptoms, suspected that it might be a snakebite. He advised the patient’s relatives to search around the bed. Later, a venomous snake—locally known as ‘Chaineswe’—was found dead under the patient’s pillow.
Snakebite treatment was started immediately. By then, nearly 70% of the patient's heart had stopped functioning. Following this, the doctors, sub-assistant medical officer, and nurses at Lama Hospital worked tirelessly for three hours, and eventually managed to revive the patient in a stable condition.
This incident stands as a shining example of the compassion and expertise of the medical team at Lama Hospital.
