In the 9th phase of "Project Ranga", Team Put a Period returned to Vashantek Bosti, extending our efforts to support the community. This time, period kits were distributed to 50 more menstruating women and girls. Each kit, equipped with 6 reusable sanitary napkins from Ellapad, 2 pairs of underwear, and 1 bar of soap, is designed to meet an individual's menstrual needs for an entire year.
Our team conducted a comprehensive session, demonstrating the proper use and care of the reusable pads. Additionally, we addressed prevalent misconceptions about menstruation within underprivileged Bangladeshi communities. This was followed by free one on one consultancy with Dr. Safa Islam (M.B.B.S, PGT -Gynae & Obs ; Medical Officer at Pro Active Medical College & Hospital) who offered her valuable insights into reproductive health.
We also had the opportunity to collect feedback from those who received our kits last June. The response was encouraging, as women found the transition to reusable pads comfortable and were content with the product quality.
Put a Period is committed to continuing our mission of empowering women and young girls in underserved regions while challenging the taboos associated with menstruation. We express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Safa for her contribution to this successful fieldwork.
"প্রোজেক্ট রাঙ্গা"-এর ৯ম সংস্করণে আমরা ফিরে গিয়েছিলাম ভাসানটেক বস্তিতে। আমাদের কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে এ বস্তিতে বসবাসরত ৫০ এরও অধিক নারী এবং যুবতিদের বিনামূল্যে মাসিক কিট প্রদান করা হয়েছে। প্রত্যেকটি কিটে এলাপ্যাডের ৬টি পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য স্যানিটারি প্যাড, ২ জোড়া প্যান্টি এবং একটি করে সাবান দেয়া হয়– যা একজন ব্যক্তির এক বছরের মাসিক-সম্পর্কিত চাহিদা পূরণ করতে সক্ষম হবে।
এছাড়া, পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য স্যানিটারি প্যাড-এর সঠিক ব্যবহারবিধি এবং মাসিক ও প্রজননস্বাস্থ্য সম্পর্কিত নানা বিষয় নিয়ে কর্মশালার আয়োজন করা হয় । এ কর্মশালায় আমাদের সাথে যোগ দেন ডাঃ সাফা ইসলাম (এম.বি.বি.এস., পি.জি.টি.-স্ত্রী ও ধাত্রীবিদ্যা; মেডিকেল অফিসার, প্রো অ্যাক্টিভ মেডিকেল কলেজ এবং হাসপাতাল)। কর্মশালায় অংশগ্রহণকারীদের নানা মাসিকবিষয়ক সমস্যার উত্তরে বিনামূল্যে পরামর্শও দেন তিনি।
পাশাপাশি, গত জুনে যেসব ব্যক্তিদের মাঝে মাসিক কিট বিতরণ করা হয়েছিল আমরা তাদের সাথে দেখা করি। তাদের মধ্যে অনেকেই পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য স্যানিটারি প্যাড ব্যবহারের ব্যাপারে তাদের সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করেছেন।
"পুট এ পিরিয়ড" সমাজে প্রচলিত মাসিক-সম্পর্কিত কুসংস্কার দূর করে নারীদের ক্ষমতায়নে অগ্রগামী ভূমিকা রাখার জন্য প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ। এই কর্মশালাটিকে তার মূল্যবান সময় দিয়ে সার্থক করার জন্য আমরা ডাঃ সাফার প্রতি কৃতার্থ।
