Today, Sweden's newly appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Louise Morsing presented copies of her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

This marks the beginning of her diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan. The Embassy looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with Azerbaijani partners and to further deepening the friendship and collaboration between our two countries.

Have you heard of Raoul Wallenberg?

He was a Swedish diplomat who saved tens of thousands of Jews from the Holocaust.

His civil courage and acts of solidarity remind us of the importance of combatting antisemitism and racism.

We honour his memory today on Raoul Wallenberg Day.

Today is Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden, a major holiday and one of the longest days of the year – over 18 hours in Stockholm, while in northen Sweden, the sun doesn’t set! We celebrate by dancing around a maypole and singing traditional songs – even one about little frogs – with flower wreaths in our hair. The day also features a tasty dinner of pickled herring, new potatoes, sour cream, and strawberry cake for dessert. Happy Midsummer!

Did you know that thousands of Swedes, Finns and Germans used to work for the Nobel Brothers in Baku?

Last week, an enlightening seminar took place at Villa Petrolea exploring everyday life of these and other foreign expatriates in Azerbaijan and Georgia between the 1870's and the 1920's. The seminar brought together renowned scholars from Azerbaijan, Finland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

The seminar was complemented by an exhibition of photos from the same period, including from the collection of the National History Museum of Azerbaijan.

The seminar and the exhibition were the fruit of excellent collaboration between the Aleksanteri Institute of the University of Helsinki, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, the Embassies of Finland, Germany and Sweden, and with the support of the Max Weber Foundation and the National Archives of Georgia.

Thank you to all our guests for making our farewell reception at Villa Petrolea an evening to remember!

The event was an opportunity to review the achievements of the Swedish Embassy in Baku over the past four years, and to recognize the contributions of our friends and partners.

Together with Sirus and Namiq, the core of excellence of the Embassy, and with the help of the limitless energy of Florence, we have achieved a lot.

A few highlights:

🎓 We brought people together through scholarship programmes and joint activities with our alumni association

♀️ We organized numerous activities promoting gender equality and women’s rights

🌍 We joined forces with our Nordic and Baltic colleagues to promote business, climate and women’s empowerment

🤝 We facilitated the development of the partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO

🎭 We took a Pippi Longstocking play to G***a and Sheki

🗺️ We visited all districts of Azerbaijan, including those in Karabakh

🍽️ We showcased Swedish food as part of the EU Taste of Europe festival

🎬 We premiered a documentary about the Nobel brothers in Villa Petrolea

🎉 We threw an all-night party to celebrate Eurovision in Malmö

We want to express our profound appreciation to all of you who work tirelessly to help us promote relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan!

Special thanks to the Baku Nobel Heritage Foundation for excellent collaboration throughout the years.

As I prepare to leave Baku, I would like to pay tribute to a very special person in our Swedish and business community - Bahram Atabeyli.

Bahram has been an outstanding partner of the Embassy for many years.

Through his deep knowledge of both Sweden and Azerbaijan, as well as his out-of-the-box thinking and entrepreneurial spirit, Bahram has contributed tremendously to the development of the business relations between our two countries.

His sense of responsibility led him to not only coordinate the business-led activities of the Nordic Business Club launched by the Nordic Embassies in 2024, but also to being instrumental in its transformation into a Nordic-Baltic Business Club in 2025. As a representative of the Swedish company Emtunga, Bahram has helped develop the company's footprint in Azerbaijan.

Thank you Bahram for everything you have done to promote relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan!
