Hey local beekeepers🐝🐝

The National Varroa Mite Management Program has a new-look website.
The website features direct links to training, monitoring and reporting mechanisms as well as contact links for Varroa Development Officers and the National Pollination Industry Coordinator.

Varroa Development Officers (VDO) are here to help us get our heads around what we need to do to manage Varroa mites in our bees. They are not enforcement or compliance officers, but trainers here to help us learn.
If you’ve missed the training or just want some help to check your hive and test for Varroa, get in touch with them.
Our local VDO in based in the southern highlands and happy to travel here to help us.

Varroa update workshop

Yass Soldiers Club (10-12) club Apiary (1-2pm)

Presented by Varroa Developemenr Officer - Harvey Howard.

Come along and get the latest updates, hear what’s going on in other regions and ask questions.

Demonstrations in the apiary include varroa washes, drone uncapping and simulating applying treatments.

Open to all beekeepers in the Yass valley region.

Varroa Management presentation and Club Field Day.

Varroa Management Presentation
When: Sunday 10 March 2024
Time: 1200
Venue: Trader and Co, Meehan St, Yass.

The presentation with Daniel Martin bee biosecurity officer from DPI, will begin at 1200.

Following the completion of the presentation and any Q&A, we will adjourn to the club apiary at Cooma Cottage. This should start about 1:30PM.

All beekeepers or those with an interest are welcome. You not need to be a club member to come along.

Februarys club get together discussed the preparation of honey for showing.
A small group came together and went through the preparation process from harvest to show entry.
Some samples of members honey was graded by colour, density and moisture contents tested.
Have you got your honey ready for the 2023 Yass Show on Sunday 18th March?

What a busy weekend.
Our first 1 day Introduction to Beekeeping Course for 2023 was run this weekend.
It was a small course but lots of fun, great conversation and time in the hives was achieved.
Well done to these fabulous participants getting stuck into the club Longlang horizontal hive for a full brood inspection, finding new eggs and young larvae in the Top Bar hive and checking out a very full Warre Hive.

This course is 7 hours including a little ‘hive time’ to get the basics to start beekeeping.
