This is a good analysis of the different types of fuel the shipping industry is trying out in the move away from bunker fuel.
Electrification has already work its way into shipping, it is no longer niche with about 900 vessels operating in China alone.
It is the cost accountants at work in driving this change from plain bunker fuel to various fuel combinations to full electric. The article states "This alignment is not driven by ideology or policy statements. It is driven by orders, balance sheets, and operational constraints."
