Still She Blooms - This artwork was inspired by my daughter and the lived experiences that have shaped her journey.

The background represents the stereotypes, assumptions, discrimination, and limiting narratives that can be spoken over a person because of their race, neurodiversity, family circumstances, or simply because they are perceived as different.

The flowers symbolise resilience, protection, strength, growth, and the many gifts that continue to flourish despite adversity. They represent the qualities that no stereotype can diminish and the beauty that can emerge even through life's challenges.

The figure is intentionally unclothed, symbolising authenticity and humanity beyond labels. Stripped of stereotypes, assumptions, and society's expectations, she stands simply as herself — not defined by the words spoken about her, but by the truth of who she is.

While adversity has formed part of her story, it has never defined her. Beneath the labels is a young woman of courage, determination, intelligence, compassion, and possibility.

This piece is a reminder that behind every label is a unique individual with strengths, gifts, dreams, and a story worth knowing. When we look beyond assumptions and stereotypes, we create space to truly see one another.

The labels may have been spoken over her, but they were never her identity.

Still, she blooms. 🌷

Imagine waiting your turn for ages, to then be treated like you’re invisible when get to the front.

Sometimes discrimination doesn’t look loud or obvious. Sometimes it looks like everyday moments people barely notice or ignore.

Today I witnessed something that happens far too often to people living with disability.

I was supporting a client at an op shop, and we were waiting at the counter to pay separately, which I made clear to the attendant.

After serving me, instead of serving my client next, even though she had been waiting there the whole time, the attendant immediately turned to a man who had just walked up to the counter.

I had to prompt the situation before my client was finally acknowledged.

It wasn’t just the action itself that stayed with me… it was the assumption & subconcious bias behind it.

The assumption that someone else’s time mattered more.
That it was ok for her to be overlooked.
That she should always wait to convenience everyone else.

These moments might seem like no big deal, but for many people with disabilities, this happens practically every day.

This is why awareness matters.
Because inclusion isn’t just about policies or procedures; It’s also about how we treat people in ordinary moments.

Sometimes dignity starts with simply being seen, and its up to each & every one of us to aknowledge the presence of others; particially those with disabilities or from minority groups.

Reflecting on how we respond to other in ordinary moments, may help us catch our subconcious bias in action. Only then can we make the changes needed to come together as one community, where everyone is included & treated with basic dignity & kindness.

Burnout, fatigue, disconnection and unexplained physical symptoms are becoming increasingly common across our society.

Sometimes physical symptoms can be connected to chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, nervous system dysregulation, trauma, and long-term patterns of survival mode.

Healing doesn’t always begin with “pushing through” harder. Sometimes it begins by slowing down, feeling safe enough to reconnect with yourself, and giving the nervous system space to regulate and repair.

I offer Arts Therapy and Creative Counselling for people seeking a more holistic, creative and gentle approach to emotional wellbeing and nervous system support.

Mindfulness is a simple yet powerful tool I often draw on within arts therapy sessions to help clients feel more grounded, present, and connected to themselves.

When stress, anxiety, trauma responses, or overwhelm show up, slowing down and noticing the present moment can help regulate the nervous system and create a sense of safety.

This practice is a gentle starting point you can use anytime you need to pause and reconnect.

In arts therapy, mindfulness can also support creative expression; helping you tune into emotions, thoughts, and sensations before exploring them through art-making.

Healing doesn’t always begin with words. Sometimes it begins with simply noticing your breath.

Living with chronic illness, burnout, or disabilities is often a long, unseen journey of gradual loss before any sense of return.

Energy, identity, relationships, and the rhythm of life can slowly shift; sometimes over years, into something unrecognisable.

Yet, even in that space, something quietly continues.
A turning inward.
A re-meeting of self.
A different kind of becoming.

Healing is not linear, and it looks different for everyone. For me, it unfolded over years of burnout and chronic illness; through withdrawal from unsustainable environments, and slowly creating space for parts of myself to return, while others emerged anew.

There are still hard days; but there are also moments of light, meaning, and small return.

My hope is to honour those navigating long uncertainty: there is often isolation before reconnection, grief before growth; but also, still, hope in the inbetween.
