Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day. 🖤💛❤️

For our Elders, Survivors and mob, this day carries extra weight. Navigating aged care is hard enough. Navigating it when the system has never felt safe for our people? That takes a different kind of strength.

KBHAC's Elder Care team stands with you today and every day. We're here to make sure our Elders are safe, supported and never have to fight this system alone.

If you or someone you love is 50+ and needs support with:
🏠 Staying safe and independent at home or needing help with being humbugged
🚗 Getting to appointments and the shops
📋 Understanding your aged care rights and entitlements
💬 Dealing with a home care provider who isn't listening

We'll walk alongside you. No shame. No judgment. Just mob who get it.

Our team are ready to yarn with you.

For the first time, KBH Survivors, our descendants and partners can help build one of the first Stolen Generations truth-telling datasets that is owned by our community, not held by someone else. What you share will help guide the healing, support and change we know our people need.

Aunty Lyiata has recorded a short video yarning about why this matters and what your story makes possible. Have a watch, then click through to the survey when you are ready. Everything you share is confidential.

Next year marks 30 years since the Bringing Them Home Report. Three decades on, our voices telling our own truths matter more than ever. This is one way we make sure the next 30 years are shaped by us.

What a night.

Recently, we gathered at KBHAC in Waterloo to witness something truly powerful; the launch of the Coolamon Arts Hub and its inaugural exhibition, Truth-Telling: Our Past, Present and Future.
The room was full, the stories were real, and the art on the walls said everything that needed to be said.

Here's something many people don't know. When the Uncles were boys at Kinchela, they were already artists. Their drawings and creative work were expressions of identity and survival, even in a place designed to strip them of both. And some of that artwork was taken and used as propaganda; displayed to the public as if life at Kinchela was safe and nurturing, when nothing could be further from the truth.

At the opening, those same Survivors reclaimed their creative power. On their own terms. For their own community. For their own future.

Curated by Brad Webb and featuring works by Uncle Richard, Uncle Roger, Uncle Milton, Uncle Bobby, Uncle Colin and Uncle Gus, this exhibition is Survivor-led truth-telling in action. It also includes the extraordinary documentary photography project We Were Just Little Boys by Tace Stevens; https://www.tacestevens.com/we-were-just-little-boys

Coolamon is more than an arts space. It is a cultural home, a truth-telling space, and a Survivor-led creative enterprise that keeps culture strong, keeps money in community, and honours the intellectual property that was once taken from these men as children.

The exhibition is open now and running until 12 July, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, at 1/179 Botany Road, Waterloo.

If you can get there, please go. Bring someone with you. These stories deserve to be witnessed.

Today is National Sorry Day. But sorry is not enough.
This year, we have lost three more of our Survivors. Only 44 remain.

Every year we gather, we light candles, we say sorry, and every year, our Uncles continue to wait. They have waited nearly 30 years since the Bringing them home report was handed down. They have told their stories, provided their evidence, and carried this country's history in their bodies. And still, just 6 per cent of the recommendations from that report have been clearly implemented.

Are we waiting for them to die?
That question must sit with all of us today.

On this National Sorry Day, the Healing Foundation has released 'From Sorry to Action: A Plan to Act on Bringing them home (2026-2028)' a roadmap that moves beyond words and sets out the tangible actions governments and stakeholders must take now, ahead of the 30th anniversary of the report in May 2027.

The plan is clear. It calls for:
✊🏾 Increased funding for Stolen Generations organisations
✊🏾 Greater support for social and emotional wellbeing
✊🏾 A long-term investment strategy for the sector
✊🏾 Continued support for gatherings and capacity building

We need the resources to rebuild family structures which has been the ask of our Uncles all along.

For the 44 Uncles still with us, and for the three we have already lost this year, we will not stop. We will not wait another decade.
It is time to move from sorry to action.

Our vision is to transform the now heritage listed former Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Training Home into a living museum and healing centre.
