Keewong Ngiyampaa is street wear clothing designed for the individual to express their unique personality, with this in mind each design will feature on 10 garments only. Keewong station is situated in Central West NSW, where my Great Grandmother was born. In the era my grandmother was born Aboriginal people were listed as fauna and given the name of the property as our surname
. Government authorities at the time used this method to identify where Aboriginal people were born and came from. Ngiyampaa is the tribe and country my family originate from and the area that Keewong Station is situated. As a child I heard many stories about how my family grew up as children. My grandmother passed on stories about growing up on Keewong Station including the first time she heard and saw a motor car. Having spent a lot of time with my Great Grandmother and her sisters I feel privileged to have known them, listen to them speak traditional language and learn about family connections to country and people. Sadly much of the Ngiyampaa language has been lost to the younger generation of my family with only a few words and sentences used regularly in everyday conversation today. The logo I have chosen for my brand is the original sign on the front gate of the property and was chosen as a visual representation of family’s history, one I would like to present and share with the world.
