🐦Following on from our recent win at the PLAWA 2026 Excellence Awards we are excited to announce Cockitrough is heading east! ➡

The City Of Port Phillip has become the first Victorian council to adopt and install not one… but SIX Cockitroughs, with four as part of its Danks Street Biolink Project.

These are the first Cockitroughs outside of WA, which is a massive milestone for our project!

The Cockitrough was selected by the City to help:

🌿 strengthen urban biodiversity corridors
🐾 support wildlife movement across fragmented habitats
🫗 provide reliable water sources in the drying climate of Melbourne, which gets even less average yearly rainfall than Perth!

Next time you visit inner-city Melbourne, keep an eye out and go say hello.

View the locations here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RmmGY9PNRJbHMGJk9
More Cockitrough info: https://www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au/residents/environment/supporting-our-environment/bird-waterers.aspx

Huge thanks to the City of Port Phillip for backing our Cockitrough project!

🗑 Waste collection update 🗑

You may have heard we have been considering the contract for waste collection and management services in the Town for the coming years, as the previous contract has come to its natural end.

Given the inherent complexity and importance of waste services to the community, the new contract is expected to take some time to finalise.

🙋‍♀️ What does this mean for me? 🙋‍♂️

The provision of updated Waste Guides will be delayed until the new waste collection contract is finalised. However, your waste collection schedule will remain unchanged in the interim.

Please continue to place your bins out to the usual schedule. For more info on collection days in your area, visit: https://www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au/residents/waste-and-recycling/bins-and-collections.aspx

Hazardous waste disposal dates and Verge Valet will be unaffected. Verge Valet allocations reset on 1 July each year.

If you have a waste-related inquiry, you can contact us on 9311 8111, email [email protected] or make a service request at https://www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au/forms/service-request-rubbish-and-bins/240

✨ Local Government Awards ✨

It's been a great start to the week here at the Town as we celebrate award wins on a number of fronts.

Following our beloved Cockitrough taking out the Environment & Sustainability Initiative Award at the Parks Leisure WA 2026 Awards for Excellence last Thursday, the Town continued its winning form at WALGA's Local Government Awards.

A big congrats to Karen Vernon, Mayor of Victoria Park for her well-deserved recognition via an Eminent Service Award, which celebrates distinguished contributions to WALGA and the Local Government sector.

WALGA also presented its Most Accessible Communities Western Australia Awards for the seventh year, recognising the recently completed Elizabeth Baillie Redevelopment Project for its commitment to accessibility.

From the park landscaping and Mildred Creak playspace designed in collaboration with the Autism Association of Western Australia, to the Changing Places-accredited public bathrooms and broader work with community stakeholders, the project represents a very proud achievement for all involved!

🦉 Oi! 🦉

Are you using bird-friendly rodent baits? My fellow Southern Boobooks and I would greatly appreciate it if you did so.

The Town of Victoria Park recently changed all rat baits at its facilities from SGARs to First-generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (FGARs), which I reckon is a good move.

Not sure why? Read all about it at VicPark.info/Rodent
