It’s been a long recovery for these two.
They both had urinary tract infections and went downhill fast, but over weeks, many vet visits, X-rays and antibiotics, they made it.
The bond between them was strong, and with perseverance, their carer has got them to aviary stage.
Out of the pouch now and in an aviary, in a few weeks, they’ll be ready for release.

Another survey? Why is it important?

The delicate bones of a ringtail.
That white blob, that’s the damaged kidney.
This is the female twin whose fighting spirit has surprised experienced carers and the specialised vet clinics at SKER and AKWC.
Had she not made it, she would have been studied to learn more about how a urinary tract infection affected her.
Remarkably, she’s pulled through with one good kidney, care and the close bond with her brother.

Every day, a photo reminder pops up on your phone. Of a young animal that came into care, or a group of young possums released in their own possum box.
And we wonder. How is this little soul doing now?

Has she gone on to raise her own young? Is she healthy? Is her habitat intact? Has her neighbourhood seen change?
Wildlife organisations are here picking up the pieces, helping wildlife suffering the effects of habitat loss, human caused injury and stress induced illnesses, like possum dermatitis and myopathy.
Wildlife organisations support the public wanting help with orphaned wildlife, without government funding.

Day one of Spring.
A few photos from a busy start.
A young brushtail found alone in Glen Osmond. A baby brushtail from Parafield Gardens. Another youngster from Elizabeth East.
A kangaroo joey whose Mum had been hit by a car. A white ibis. A lorikeet needing help and picked up by the ambulance.
Even assistance with a fox. Although a fox is not native wildlife, one of our rescuers was able to assist.
There’s more..... lots of baby ringtails and baby birds. And this is just the start of Spring.
Behind every one of these rescues are people answering calls, giving advice, rescuing and caring for wildlife.
Wildlife rescue is rewarding. Every call answered, every piece of advice given, every piece of knowledge shared helps make a difference to wildlife and the people who call them in.
Well done to the team of phone operators, rescuers and carers, with help, of course, from vets and sister organisations.

Nestling, Branchling, or Fledgling?
Can you tell the difference?
Where should they be?
And what should you do if you find one?

🪺Nestlings are almost bald, with just a little down.
These are the ones that need to be in the nest.
They’re fed by the parents very often (every 20 minutes for swallows).
Place them back in the nest. If that isn't possible - provide warmth and call a rescue.

🪾Branchlings are fluffy with some feathers.
Flying is a little further away, but until then they’ll be cared for by their parents.
You can give them a hand by gently popping them back up on a branch.

🪶Fledglings are almost there...
They’ve got all their feathers, and they’re just about ready to fly.
Takeoff is about a week away.
Until then, they’ll run around on the ground - healthy, happy, and still being looked after by Mum and Dad.

⭐️The best place for them all is with their parents.
