Great News for Older Australians!
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Central Coast Community Transport welcome the Australian Government's decision to continue the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) as a separate and distinct program alongside Support at Home.
This is a positive outcome for older people, recognising the important role that early intervention, wellbeing, and community connection play in helping people live independently and confidently as they age.
CHSP provides access to practical, flexible supports that help older Australians stay active, engaged, and connected to their local community. From community transport and social outings to assistance with meals and everyday activities, these services are designed to support wellbeing before more complex care needs arise.
At its heart, CHSP is about supporting positive ageing by helping people maintain their independence, build social connections, continue participating in the activities they enjoy, and remain connected to their communities.
We know that staying socially connected, getting out and about, attending appointments, enjoying outings with friends, and maintaining an active lifestyle all contribute to better health and wellbeing as we age.
The continuation of CHSP provides certainty for older Australians and preserves an important pathway to services that focus on prevention, independence, and quality of life.
💙 We look forward to continuing to support older people to stay connected, stay active, and stay independent in the communities they know and love.
