What a wonderful evening supporting the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation. The generosity in the room was overwhelming, and it was inspiring to see so many people coming together to improve healthcare outcomes for children and families across our region.

The Foundation does incredible work supporting services and facilities at Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals, helping to provide equipment, programs and environments that make a real difference to local children and their families.

Congratulations to Dianne Mailata on receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award. It was lovely to see Dianne recognised for her outstanding contribution and dedication to the Foundation over many years.

Funds raised on the night will help create a neurodiverse sensory space for children who need a calm and supportive environment, as well as a private breastfeeding room for mothers and their babies. These are practical projects that will make a meaningful difference to families when they need it most.

For me, however, the highlight of the evening was seeing Jessica Mitchell receive the prestigious Ric Dunstan Memorial Award. Named in honour of Dr Ric Dunstan, a much-loved and respected doctor who was passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of medical professionals, the award recognises excellence, dedication and commitment in medical studies.

Jessica was one of my Entertainment Industry students at Picton High School, and it has been wonderful to watch her journey. She is now in her final years of medical training and on her way to becoming a fully qualified doctor. When Jessica's name was announced as the award recipient, the joy on my face was impossible to hide. To see a former student achieve such an honour was incredibly special, and I couldn't be prouder of her achievement.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making the evening such a success, and thank you to the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation for the incredible work you do for our community.
Also attending were Councillors Jacqueline Jenson and Ally Dench, Deputy Mayor Matthew Deeth, MP Judy Hannan MP - Member for Wollondilly and other senior council staff.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Richard Scolyer.

Like so many Australians, I followed his journey with admiration. Even after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer, he continued to approach life with remarkable courage, determination and generosity. Rather than stepping away from his work, he used his own diagnosis to help advance research that may one day save the lives of others.

As Joint Australian of the Year in 2024, Professor Scolyer inspired our nation not only through his world-leading achievements in melanoma research, but through the grace, honesty and resilience he showed in the face of unimaginable challenges.

His legacy will live on through the countless lives he has touched, the medical breakthroughs he helped achieve, and the hope he gave to patients and families around the world.

My sincere condolences to his wife Katie, their children, family, friends, colleagues and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Rest in peace, Professor Richard Scolyer. Your contribution to Australia and humanity will never be forgotten.

What an inspiring way to spend a Sunday afternoon at the Blue Butterfly Institute High Tea at Gledswood Hills Homestead and Winery.

One of the most powerful moments of the afternoon was hearing Reuben share his personal story and speak openly about the trauma he has endured. His courage highlighted an important message โ€“ this type of assault does not discriminate, and men can also be victims of this devastating abuse.

It was encouraging to see such strong support from across the region, with the Mayors of Wollondilly, Camden and Campbelltown, along with councillors from all three councils, in attendance. It was wonderful to see a united front standing together in support of raising awareness and helping those affected by domestic and family violence.

I was pleased to attend alongside Mayor Matt Gould and Judy Hannan MP, Member for Wollondilly. Thank you to the Blue Butterfly Institute for hosting such a meaningful event and for the important work you do in our community.
