Consul-General Yamanaka in Newcastle - 2 June | Part 2

The Consul-General was honoured to pay a courtesy call on City of Newcastle Lord Mayor Gavin Morris. Also present were Cr Jenny Barrie, Cr Mark Brooker and Cr Declan Clausen (Chair, Strategy and Innovation Strategic Advisory Committee).

Consul-General Yamanaka in Newcastle - 2 June | Part 1

"Wonderful to be back in Newcastle last Tuesday giving a talk on 50 years of 🇯🇵🇦🇺 relations at the University of Newcastle ... I look forward to further connections between 🇯🇵🇦🇺 in higher education." - Consul-General Yamanaka

The Consul-General first visited The University of Newcastle, Australia where he gave a talk on "50 Years of Friendship" followed by a Q&A session. Thank you to Dr Rowena Ward for facilitating the event which was also attended by Dr Alek Voninski, Pro Vice-Chancellor Global.

In the afternoon, the Consul-General visited the Nihon University Newcastle Campus (NUNC) for the first time. The informative tour showcased the modern dormitory and education facilities. It also highlighted the marvellous renovation and preservation of the former law court, an important part of Newcastle's heritage.

Last Thursday, we visited Wentworth Point High School as part of the Consulate's School Visit Program 🏫

We were accompanied by local artist Midori Furze who demonstrated Japanese calligraphy and showcased several creative applications for origami! 🖌✨
