Marine Rescue Mooloolaba Marine Rescue Mooloolaba (formerly Coast Guard Mooloolaba QF6) - dedicated to saving lives at sea and supporting those on or near the water.

In an emergency, always call Triple Zero (000) or radio VHF 16. Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) Mooloolaba has a proud history of marine rescue and community service on the Sunshine Coast. Formerly Coast Guard Mooloolaba QF6, the unit has been serving the local boating community since the 1970s, with generations of volunteers giving their time to help people on the water. We provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year marine rescue service for local recreational and commercial vessels, as well as to vessels visiting our area of operations. We operate four rescue vessels: "Mooloolaba Rotary Rescue", a 13.8 metre all-weather offshore rescue vessel, "Rotary III", a quick response 8.5 metre inshore rescue vessel, "Marine Rescue One" a 6.5 metre RIB and “Maroochy RSL” a 4.7 metre RIB. Each year we assist around 200 distressed vessels from local waters, accessed by this area’s only ‘all-weather’ ocean access. MRQ Mooloolaba also maintains a 24/7 marine radio watch on all relevant channels, while providing a ‘Log-on, Log-off’ safety service for all mariners operating in this area. This system gives us an early warning of any overdue vessels, whether in transit or operating locally.

Mariners are advised that: upgrade works to the diffusers on the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant outfall pipeline will be conducted from 26 October 2026 and are expected to be completed by 15 December 2026. The works will be carried out from the vessel ‘Iluka’ between 0600 hours and 1800 hours. The work area will be marked with yellow special mark buoys Fl. Y 0.5s

The works will be conducted between the following points:
• Point A: 26°43.867' S 153°08.587' E
• Point B: 26°43.867' S 153°08.673' E
The work area will be marked by four marker buoys at the following coordinates:
• North-West Corner (BP1): 26°43.823' S 153°08.539' E
• North-East Corner (BP2): 26°43.824' S 153°08.721' E
• South-East Corner (BP3): 26°43.910' S 153°08.721' E
• South-West Corner (BP4): 26°43.910' S 153°08.539' E

Map S11-789-1 attached, shows the works area. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution when approaching or transiting near these coordinates. The vessel ‘Iluka’ will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 and 82 during operations. Mariners navigating in the vicinity of the work area are advised to exercise caution and carefully consider the position of the ‘Iluka’, as well as the nearby buoys and anchors and maintain a safe distance to ensure the safety of all vessels and personnel involved. Activity: Bli Bli bridge remediation works.
Mariners are advised that: remediation works will be undertaken on the piles of David Low Bridge at Bli Bli on the Maroochy River from Monday 26 October 2026 to Friday 4 December 2026, subject to weather, tidal conditions and operational requirements. Works will generally be conducted Monday to Friday between 0600 hours and 1600 hours. The works will involve transportable barges, dive support vessels, tender vessels and floating work platforms positioned around the bridge piles. Barges and associated equipment will remain moored at or near the bridge for the duration of the works and may be repositioned between the upstream and downstream sides of the bridge as required. During diving operations, the International Code Flag A and appropriate warning signs will be displayed. Work vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 16 during operations and may contact approaching vessels where necessary.

Mariners must keep a proper lookout, pass the work site at slow speed with minimum wash, keep well clear of work vessels, barges, mooring arrangements and divers, and avoid impeding the works. Mariners should follow any directions given by the vessel master or Maritime Safety Queensland. Mariners should navigate the area with caution.

Catamaran and Yacht Assists

This morning around 0600, we were requested by MSQ to retrieve a yacht that was against the bridge crossing the Parrearra Canal at Outrigger Park and to remove a catamaran, which was impacting a private pontoon at the entrance to Baronga Broadwater.

Skipper Ian H and crew of Mark C Bruce E, Joe K, Robert S and Chris S departed MRQ Mooloolaba on Rotary III at 0700.

On arrival at the Bridge, it was discovered that the yacht had already been moved to the public pontoon at Outrigger Park.

The next task was to retrieve and re-anchor the catamaran, which was a difficult task in the 20 knot wind and driving rain. On docking at the pontoon, it was discovered that the yacht's anchor chain was under the port hull. Robert S and Chris S went aboard the catamaran and retrieved the anchor. Rotary III connected its towline and with our 2 crew aboard, towed the catamaran into the Duck Pond where it was re-anchored.

At 0900 a thoroughly wet Rotary III and crew returned to MRQ Mooloolaba after completing the difficult task.

Well done to our crew and Radio Operator Boyd M, who coordinated the task with MSQ.
