Join Councils had its first meeting! We passed a few motions, the most significant one being a motion to create a new BAME Subcommittee. Like the Association Councils page to stay up to date throughout the year! And please, give feedback in the pinned post on this page if there are more changes you'd like to see 😊

Last week's Emergency Joint Councils meeting was the first with the six new sabbatical officers, and your councillors successfully passed four motions and co-opted three officers to different committee and panel positions.

Check out the graphic below for more information, and if you have any questions, email [email protected].

Do you have thoughts, feedback, or insights about gender equality at St Andrews? I want to hear your opinions! Tell us how we can improve, or what your biggest concerns are. The feedback form is anonymous, unless you want credit for your ideas and choose to add your name! Of course, you can directly message this page as well. I look forward to hearing from you!

This form is completely anonymous. Please be honest and enter any feedback you have. I will do my best to take it all into account and to create new policies and work with both the Union and the University to improve Gender Equality at St Andrews!

Hi I’m Elise! This is my manifesto to discuss what my goals will be and why I would love to represent you the students as Member for Gender Equality.

I have a lot of experience working with joint councils, the Sabb team, the Gender Based societies, Student Services, and CAPOD and many other across the university on a wide range of practical policy areas. While I am proud of the progress we have made in the last few years, this also means I am particularly aware of the things that still need to be done. I believe I am capable of making a lot of those necessary changes happen especially because of my experience and knowledge of working within university structures.

These are the key points I will fight for:

1. Create an anonymous online forum to voice concerns or suggestions regarding gender equality and make myself available each week to anyone who wants to talk in person

2. Make Got Consent workshops mandatory for all incoming students

3. Integrate training for staff and students regarding the importance of pronoun usage within and outside classroom settings

4. Encourage and seek out diverse participation and insights from students of all gender identifications and backgrounds

5. Work with Student Services to better advertise and explain the help they can provide in cases of sexual misconduct as there is a current lack of awareness

6. Expand workshops for all student leaders on creating a culture of consent and safety within their society, team, or committee

7. Lobby the university to abide by the 2019 Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) motion which resolved to actively improve the sexual misconduct policy, include the Principal’s Office in SGBV meetings and gain their public support, and formalize current practices such as semi-mandatory Got Consent workshops for freshers, councils members, and AU presidents

8. Collaborate on and provide support for any gender based events (such as Reclaim the Night and Sexual Assault Awareness Month events) by publicizing and helping to fundraise where necessary

I am extremely passionate about these and many other gender based issues. My time at this university has been shaped by my involvement in working towards gender equality and fighting for the rights of students. If given the opportunity to sit on the SRC I will be in a better position to lobby for these issues and make sure that people of all genders are represented and have a voice. I am always keen to hear new ideas and look forward to working with students and student leaders to improve the St Andrews experience.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my ideas a bit more! Please do comment or message me with questions or concerns, I’m always available and happy to chat!
