The accountants who stay relevant are not always the smartest.

They are often the most curious. 🔍

Technical skills are important, of course. It’s the foundation of the profession.

But curiosity keeps your career moving when technology, regulation and client expectations keep changing. 🚀

As Bruce Vivian, head of education at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), explains to INTHEBLACK. “It might mean asking probing questions in meetings or, instead of accepting the status quo or relying on business-as-usual processes, making a habit of becoming an active participant in decision-making and the way things are done in the workplace.”

Sarah Craig, learning and development manager at CPA Australia, shares a similar view.

“Intellectual curiosity allows people to keep pace with rapid change in areas like technology, sustainability, leadership skills and regulatory reform,” she says, adding that cultivating curiosity can help foster innovation, creativity and more skilled problem-solving. 💡

Curiosity is not a personality trait reserved for a few people. It is a skill that can be developed every day.
