As part of Queensland Day celebrations, the Queensland Virtual Academy (QVA) hosted Queensland’s Biggest Classroom. More than 800 primary school students from regional and remote communities participated in today’s lesson. The lesson explored Queensland’s primary industries and included a Q&A with the Federal Education Minister, John Paul Langbroek.

Our students access QVA for specialist Science and Technology lessons each week. We are very grateful to have these lessons available to our students, as they enhance engagement and offer opportunities to connect with teachers and students from around the State. Thanks QVA for including Coppabella SS in the lesson, we enjoyed ourselves!

Week 6
What a fantastic and fun-filled Week 6 we had in the Kindy and Junior classroom!
Even though assessments have started for our Junior students, you certainly wouldn’t know it! The classroom has been buzzing with excitement, laughter, and lots of learning as everyone has been working hard while having fun.
Our Kindy students have been busy strengthening their little fingers by cutting and pasting pictures from newspapers to create colourful collages. They have also been exploring letters and names, using alphabet stamps to practise letter recognition and spell their own names. We are so proud of their efforts!
Friday was definitely the highlight of the week! We jumped on the bus and headed to Mackay for an exciting day out. First, we attended the amazing Pevan and Sarah concert at the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre (MECC). The students loved singing, dancing, clapping, and joining in with all the fun. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and happy faces throughout the show!
To top off an already wonderful day, we enjoyed lunch together before having a game of ten-pin bowling. There were cheers for strikes, encouragement for friends, and plenty of excitement as everyone had a turn.
Week 6 was packed with learning, creativity, friendship, and fun.

Week 5 – Kindy and Junior Classroom
This week has been a busy, fun, and exciting one in the Kindy and Junior classroom! We celebrated Under 8s Day on Wednesday and enjoyed the QRI breakfast on Thursday.

This week in English and Science, we have been learning about predatory animals, with a special focus on the scary-looking viper fish. We explored where it lives, what it eats, and how it survives in the deep ocean. Students enjoyed learning new facts and sharing their ideas during discussions and activities.

We have also been exploring measurement concepts by comparing the smallest and tallest objects, as well as finding items that weigh more than Ms Cain’s cup and are longer than her shoe.

Kindy students have been busy making healthy foods with playdough, practising their underarm throwing skills, and working on recognising and counting numbers 1–20.

A huge thank you to Nebo State School for hosting this year’s Under 8’s Day. Our kindy and junior class had an absolute blast! From face painting and sensory play to exploring emergency vehicles and testing out some of the amazing life-saving equipment, there was excitement everywhere we turned.
We also got creative making animals out of alfoil and plaster during the craft activities. Things got a little messy, but that just made it even more fun! The obstacle course and playground were definite favourites, and having lunch at the park topped off a fantastic day.
It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved, and we’re so grateful to have been part of it!

Week 4 has been full of fun, learning, and exciting discoveries in our Kindy and Junior class!
In English, we continued our deep-sea adventures by exploring a fascinating creature from the midnight zone — the amazing goblin shark. We learnt all about its unusual look, where it lives deep in the ocean, and why it is sometimes called a “living fossil.” The children loved discovering new facts about this mysterious sea animal and then creating their very own goblin shark craft masterpieces.
In Maths, we became measurement experts! We explored objects that were heavier and lighter, as well as things that were smaller, bigger, shorter, and longer. The students enjoyed comparing classroom objects and using their observation skills to describe what they noticed.
Our Kindy students had a wonderful time working together to complete a giant dinosaur floor puzzle. Teamwork and problem-solving skills were on full display as the puzzle slowly came to life piece by piece. We also became little scientists while investigating magnetic and non-magnetic objects. Using magnetic wands and tweezers, the children searched the classroom to discover which objects would stick to the magnets and which would not. There were lots of excited predictions and discoveries along the way!
We have also been practicing our ball and running skills. Catching and bouncing the ball as well as kicking the ball and using our foot to stop it. The students have shown great enthusiasm, and teamwork while building their confidence and skills.
It has been a joyful week packed with curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning. We are so proud of all the wonderful effort shown by our Kindy and Junior students!
