Last night our crews were handed a challenge that proved communication is *everything*… especially when there’s Lego involved. 🧱📻

Teams were split up, handed a bag of Lego and a portable radio, then tasked with building something using only verbal instructions from members outside the room. No peeking, no helping, no “just show me what you mean” — only clear, concise communication.

Some creations were… let’s call them “open to interpretation” 🤨 while others actually resembled what they were meant to be. But every team rose to the challenge and showed just how important communication is when working together under pressure.

Turns out explaining where the “little red block with the sticky-out bit” goes is harder than it sounds. 😅

And at Frankston Unit, there’s no “one type” of volunteer… you get to choose your own character. 👏

Want to get out on the truck, get muddy, sweaty and covered in sawdust? We’ve got operational roles like:

Whether he’s high-fiving kids, posing for photos or teaching the community about storm preparedness, Paddy reminds us that sometimes the biggest impact comes from simply connecting with people.

The truth is, every single role matters. Every volunteer matters. And together, SES volunteers across the country achieve incredible things for our communities every single day.

☔️ Today’s forecast? A strong chance of wet socks, foggy windscreens and questioning why you didn’t bring an umbrella.

Our crews are already out and about responding to your calls for assistance and with wet weather predicted today, now’s the perfect time to slow down, switch your headlights on and leave extra distance between you and the car in front 🚗💦

A few simple reminders:
🚘 Drive to the conditions
🌊 Never drive through floodwater
🪑 Secure loose outdoor items
🌧 Keep an eye on weather warnings and road conditions

And remember — if your wheelie bin starts its own journey down the street, it’s probably a good sign to bring things inside 😅

Stay safe, stay dry and if you don’t need to be out on the roads, today’s a pretty good excuse for an extra cuppa ☕

What happens when the power’s out, phone signal disappears and Google Maps suddenly becomes useless? 📵⚡️🗺️

On Monday night, members at SES Frankston Unit went back to basics with a hands-on training session all about using Melways — a skill that still plays a crucial role during emergencies.

Our members split into 3 groups and worked through learning:
📍 How to quickly navigate using a Melways
📍 Understanding map symbols and what they mean
📍 Finding the fastest and most effective routes to locations
📍 Working under pressure when technology isn’t available

While we rely heavily on technology every day, emergencies don’t always cooperate. Storms, power outages and network failures can all leave us without access to phones or GPS navigation — which is why knowing how to read a map is still such an important skill for SES volunteers 🚗💨

A big part of emergency response is being able to adapt quickly, think ahead and work together as a team, no matter the situation thrown at us.

Safe to say there were a few moments of “wait… where are we?” along the way 😅 but plenty of learning and laughs too!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums, step mums, grandmothers, guardians, carers, dads doing double duty, fur baby mums, mums with angel babies, and every mother figure in between 💐

Being a mum is one of the hardest — and most rewarding — jobs there is. Juggling family life while volunteering in emergency services certainly isn’t easy, but these amazing women continue to show up for their families, their community and each other with strength, compassion and a smile ☺️

Today we celebrate the love, sacrifices, resilience and endless care that mums give every single day — often without expecting anything in return.

From all of us at SES Frankston, we hope your day is filled with love, laughter, appreciation and maybe even a well-earned moment to put your feet up 💕

🧡 SES Frankston Unit members recently put their skills to the test during a hands-on maintenance and road rescue extrication session. Using two simulated casualties, our volunteers were split into three teams—each faced with a dynamic scenario designed to challenge both skill and mindset.

🧡 These exercises aren’t just about technique—they’re about thinking on your feet, adapting when situations change in an instant, and trusting the people beside you. Every cut, every call, every movement relies on clear communication and strong teamwork.

🧡 Because when the real call comes, there’s no script—just a team ready to respond. 💛🚗🔧

SES Frankston is proud to have our members stand tall and display their dedication at both the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and ANZAC March today.

It is an honor to unite in heartbreaking remembrance of all the courageous servicemen and women who have fought—and continue to fight—with unwavering resolve—for our freedom.

On this ANZAC Day anniversary, let us remember their sacrifice, their bravery, and their unbreakable spirit. Their sacrifice will forever echo in our hearts.

Today is ANZAC Day, a significant national day as we pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of all Australians who have served and passed away in war, conflicts or peace-keeping operations.

"On this day above all days we recall those who served in war and who did not return to receive grateful thanks of the Nation."

SES Frankston will be marching in the Anzac Parade in Frankston. The march will begin at 10:45am, followed by a service at Beauty Park.
