Today we hosted members and volunteers from the Bowen Information Centre (Big Mango). We had great weather and Ray; our guide, took us on a tour into the past. Having worked at the site, he knew it exceptionally well. He revealed the hidden histories behind the surviving machinery and forgotten buildings. Old fashioned coal mining was brutal hands-on work. We saw where the Pit Ponies worked alongside the miners as mates and learned how they made their way underground for their daily shifts. After the tour it was off to the Collinsville & Scottville Historical Display Centre and Museum for morning tea, and a look at the diverse displays on show. Thank you for coming and hoped you all enjoyed the visit.
