Cherisse Buzzacott, Councillor ASTC

Website

Cherisse Buzzacott, Councillor ASTC I'm a proud Arrernte (Kaytetye, Anmatyerre, Arabunna ties) woman, leader, and fierce advocate. Vote 1 for a community that is Safe, Strong, Seen.

While I proudly serve on Council, the thoughts I share here are my own and not an official Council position, and do not reflect the position of the Alice Springs Town Council. With a legacy grounded in midwifery, health advocacy and Blak business leadership, I hold decades of experience as a spokesperson for Mparntwe and as a mother of three sons- my role as a candidate in local council is not tokenistic but transformative. I am now a business owner, and I volunteer regularly in the community through orgs, sporting comps, schools and local events. Now, I am finally stepping forward to represent the people of Alice Springs as a Councillor, continuing my mission to center voices of our beautiful community, empower young people and build bright futures for all families. Vote 1 for Cherisse Buzzacott.

MASTERS OF TWO WORLDS 🛰️

The Centre for Appropriate Technology (CfAT) has spent over 40 years training and employing Aboriginal people across Central and Northern Australia and now it's stepping into cybersecurity and AI.

CEO Niki Ross says the move is about future-proofing hi-tech career pathways for Aboriginal people while helping Australian businesses become more cyber-ready. CfAT already runs two satellite dishes and space debris tracking telescopes from its Alice Springs headquarters.

From hand-forged bush tucker tools to space tech to cybersecurity - this is what happens when the world's oldest surviving culture meets the world's newest technology.

One year since the final count was completed on Council elections. 📮✅️🤎

A few weeks later I was sworn-in to the 15th Alice Springs Town Council. It's been a full year of listening, learning, showing up... and doing a lot of fun and sometimes hard work with a team who cares deeply about our town.

I’m feeling grateful tonight for the ASTC team who keep this town moving, and for a community that never stops pushing to be better, to improve wellbeing, access, livelihood for all.

Strong leadership matters, and I want to acknowledge our Mayor’s steady and strong guidance throughout a big year of change and progress.

Serving Mparntwe is a privilege. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together as a elected members, and even more excited for what’s ahead. Here’s to continuing the work, always with courage and curiosity. My Mob and my home at the centre.❤️🤗

Have you visited the Todd Mall recently?? Well you should! Don't be put off by the works that are taking place. 🤗

Local shops are open and there is still much on offer. From Aboriginal artwork, tasty food, clothing, books, homewares, and great coffee, and much more... 🛍☕️🥗

I love walking in the Mall and seeing the vibrancy of the people, and the beauty that sits in the centre of town. Im lucky to see this beauty of a painting most days, created by Karine 's Art -KAWA! The Redevelopment will feature local artists and designs throughout, community spaces and shade, that amplifies the attractions in our Mall.
