We’ve taken a huge step forward for the future of Prospect Oval/Payinthi yarta!

Last night, Council voted to proceed to the next stage of the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct Masterplan.

We all know the facilities at Prospect Oval are tired. Frankly, they just aren't good enough for our clubs or our City of Prospect community anymore. The Prospect Lifestyle Precinct Masterplan is our solution to fix that.

This decision starts the formal process to initiate a Code Amendment to update our zoning rules. Crucially, we’re aiming to fund these major upgrades by unlocking the potential of the Main North Road frontage, rather than asking ratepayers to foot the entire bill.

It’s a smart, responsible way to build for the future without hitting our community's back pocket.

I want to be clear: this isn’t the end of the conversation. We want to be upfront with you about what this looks like.

Our community will now have the opportunity to provide detailed feedback on aspects of the draft Code Amendment, including the proposed concept plan and its designated maximum building heights, when released for consultation in 2026.

At last night's Council Workshop, Council was presented with preliminary design concepts for the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct, including heights up to 12 storeys near Main North Road.

I want to be direct, as I know building heights can be a concern.

The reality is that our estimates show it'll cost around $60m to fix the serious and overdue infrastructure issues at Prospect Oval, including contaminated soil, facilities that aren't accessibility compliant, and dilapidated clubrooms. These concept heights are simply the financial modelling required to calculate the revenue that's needed to fund the fixes, and no final decisions on any development have been made.

Any future design will be controlled by the rigorous, community-informed design principles that we're putting in place. The ability to have this level of control is, in part, why Council bought 142-148 Main North Road in 2023.

The Prospect Lifestyle Precinct is the only fiscally responsible way to deliver high-quality, accessible facilities for our community without forcing crippling rate increases of 15-30% over the next decade on every household.

What a great night celebrating our incredible Village Heart business community!

Last night, City of Prospect gathered over 40 local business owners and leaders at the annual Village Heart Business Event, hosted at the iconic Palace Nova Cinemas Prospect.

It was fantastic seeing everyone connect, share some laughs, and swap ideas on how we can all work together as we head into the festive season.

I was pleased to provide an update on the progress and opportunities surrounding the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct, discussing the upcoming stages and how the future precinct will create a vibrant synergy with Prospect Road. I also discussed our soon-to-be-finalised Integrated Transport Plan, and of course, celebrated Prospect being named the Best Foodie Suburb in the 2025 Sitchu Adelaide Awards!

A big thanks to the team at Palace Nova Cinemas Prospect for being such generous hosts and for sharing an update on their great local initiatives and ways for other businesses to get involved.

The energy and passion our Village Heart businesses have for Prospect is infectious. Here's to a successful holiday season and an even brighter year ahead!

Pleased to join Minister Nick Champion MP today to welcome the first new residents and celebrate the opening of the fantastic Payinthi Reserve at Renewal SA’s landmark Prospect Corner!

This exciting neighbourhood is creating a wonderful new community, providing quality and affordable housing with an enviable inner-suburban lifestyle, just moments from Prospect Road’s Village Heart and excellent transport links. I’m also proud to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the Kaurna people, through the naming of reserves and roads.

To ensure its long-term success, City of Prospect is proactively future-proofing our infrastructure through the Churchill Road Drainage Upgrade. Welcome to the area - I can't wait to see this community thrive!

On behalf of Council, I'm proud and excited to share that we formally endorsed the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct Masterplan at Tuesday evening’s Council Meeting.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform Prospect Oval and its surrounds into a vibrant, modern hub for health, wellness, fitness, and sport for our entire community, and represents a significant step towards delivering essential, long-overdue upgrades to this vital asset.

My sincere thanks go out to our dedicated City of Prospect staff. Their tireless work and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in progressing this complex and important masterplan to this stage. Their efforts in bringing this vision to life are truly outstanding.

As a Council, we’re acutely aware of the diverse perspectives on the future precinct. We remain committed to finding the right balance to create a Prospect for the future – one that respects our legacy while embracing progress and effectively meeting our community’s evolving needs and aspirations. This masterplan now serves as our strategic framework, setting a clear direction for what's ahead, while acknowledging that the concept development, detailed design and implementation phases are still to come.

I've had the opportunity to discuss the masterplan, its benefits, and the important community conversations around it, on ABC Radio Adelaide last night. It’s crucial that we continue communicating openly and transparently about the future precinct as we move forward.

We're only on day two of the National General Assembly of Local Government (NGA) here in Canberra, and it's already been an incredibly productive visit! I'm here with Cr Thuy Nguyen, connecting with colleagues from across the country and advocating on behalf of our community.

Today we caught up with Mayor David McMullen, City of Subiaco, who we visited last year as part of our initial investigations for the Prospect Lifestyle Precinct (PLP). They were thrilled to hear about the incredible progress of PLP, and even more excited to learn that the PLP Masterplan was officially endorsed by Council just this week!

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the NGA will bring and how it will further benefit City of Prospect.

Like many of you, I was saddened to see the news of the fire on Prospect Road on Saturday afternoon, affecting several much-loved local businesses just across from Payinthi.

My thoughts are with the affected business owners, their staff, and the property owner who are all dealing with the aftermath. Running a business isn't just a job. It involves incredible amounts of blood, sweat, and tears. Beyond people's livelihoods, they're people's dreams built from the ground up, and to see that impacted is truly heartbreaking.

I wanted to personally let the affected businesses know that your City of Prospect team is already on the front foot. I've reached out to the property owner to offer whatever assistance we possibly can as they figure out the next steps, and we'll be with you every step of the way as you recover and rebuild.

We're a strong community here in Prospect, and I know we'll wrap our arms around those who need it most right now. Please keep them in your thoughts and let's show them the incredible community spirit we have.

Following this morning's article, I'm excited to share that City of Prospect is actively collaborating with the Broadview Tennis Club and Tennis SA to secure $10 million in funding for a transformative upgrade.

This project aims to elevate Broadview Tennis Club into a premier 'elite Tier 2-lite' venue, creating an exceptional space for developing local talent, fostering community connections, and enhancing recreational opportunities for everyone.

We're optimistic about the potential benefits for our community and are working towards future funding decisions. Stay tuned for updates!

On behalf of City of Prospect, I'm proud to announce a significant step forward: we've submitted our funding application to the Australian Government's urban Precincts and Partnerships Program for the transformative Prospect Lifestyle Precinct (PLP).

This initiative is about more than just upgrades; it's about forging a lasting legacy for our community and greater Adelaide. We envision the PLP as the vibrant centre of Prospect – a premier destination for health, wellness, sport, and community life, seamlessly integrating enhanced facilities, green spaces, a thriving local economy, and our rich culture.

Our aim is clear: to create a precinct that not only meets the evolving needs of our growing community, but also sets a new standard for urban living in South Australia by:

What an incredible morning last Tuesday was on Prospect Road!

City of Prospect was absolutely thrilled to host the Ziptrack Stage 1 start of the 2025 Santos Tour Down Under right here in our beautiful city.

It was fantastic to see so many people join us in supporting this iconic event. A huge thank you to everyone who made the day such a success: our amazing community, event organisers, the passionate cyclists, and Council staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. You all made Prospect shine!
