A great evening at the Joondalup Business Association Sundowner at the Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, proudly supported by the City of Joondalup.
It was a fantastic evening of conversation, community connection, and local business networking, all set within the inspiring surroundings of the TRIBUTE exhibition. The exhibition offers a thoughtful reflection on everyday life, shared spaces, and the moments that shape our community.
One of my personal highlights was a delicate watercolour work on translucent fabric by artist Tom Freeman. Inspired by the 1986 film Stand By Me, the piece explores themes of nostalgia, family and friendship, and coming of age, extending these ideas into the artist’s own memories and lived experience. Presented in a film storyboard format, the work focuses on the film’s iconic bridge scene, reimagining it through a local lens by replacing it with train bridges from Fremantle and Bridgetown, places of personal significance to the artist. It was a powerful reminder of how art can connect story, place, and memory in deeply personal ways.
Events like this continue to highlight the strength of our local business community and the value of bringing people together in creative and accessible spaces across Joondalup.
Thank you to the Joondalup Business Association for hosting and continuing to create opportunities for meaningful engagement between business, community, and local government. 🎨🤝🌇
