If anyone finds a swag on the track out of Yeagarup can you please let the owner know. It would have fallen out yesterday or the day before.

It does have a name and phone number on it.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Keep an eye out for these little birds - and please no dogs! They will destroy a colony just by running through it.

β˜€οΈπŸ–οΈ Summer is the time to hit the beach!

But before you head out onto the sand or splash into the water, take note of the closest Beach Emergency Number (BEN) sign location and information, as these signs are there to help in case of an emergency.

In an emergency, dial triple zero and quote the unique code and location information on the nearest BEN sign. This will help emergency services accurately pinpoint your location.

Why are BEN signs important? Quoting the information on the nearest BEN sign will help emergency services accurately pinpoint the location of the emergency. When visiting the beach, take note of

What`s the difference between a Fairy Tern and a K**b Headed Twit?

One is an endangered small and feathered native creature, and the other is an invasive pest species known for the excessive length of time it takes them to mature.

Sadly, both species congregate at similar geographic locations but for different reasons.

The mouth of the Hill River between Jurien Bay and Cervantes is where the Fairy Terns nest at this time of the year.

The K**b Headed Twit spends his 4X4 and camping recreation time at the same location.

K**b Headed Twits are well known for ignoring signs or requests to stay away from Fairy Tern nest sites, and they often bring their furry doggy companions to the area to let them loose on the beach, distressing the Fairy Tern parents and chicks.

This results in chicks and eggs being subject to the baking sun as their parents take flight to distract the invaders. The chicks can die.

Don`t be a K**b Headed Twit. Don`t drive on the beach near the Hill River mouth. Don`t take your pet pooch anywhere near the nesting sites and don`t camp at the mouth of the river.

Visit the river for sure, but please take note of the signage and fencing that protects the nests and chicks. View them from a distance if you need to. If the parent birds fly from the nest, you are too close.
