๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ One Nation Electors: Children of the Failed Neo-Liberal Revolution
Why is Divided Nation continuing to rise? ๐Ÿ“ˆ
And why are an increasing number of Australians voting for the party, rather than necessarily voting for the party's politics or ideology? What does the rise of Divided Nation tell us about where Australia is today?

In this presentation I look at the growing support for Divided Nation through a historical lens and examine how it is connected to the failure of a revolution that has swept across the world and particularly Australia: the neo-liberal revolution.

๐Ÿ“œ To understand the present, we need to understand the past.

So press โ–ถ๏ธ PLAY and join me as I explore the history, the politics and the forces that have brought us to where we are today.

Reclaim the Past. Understand the Present. Change the Future.

What happens when a society forgets, or chooses to ignore, its own history?

In this weekโ€™s presentation we look at something that far too many people seem to have forgotten: we need to reclaim the past to understand the present and change the future.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ One of the dilemmas of living in a society like Australia, where the Indigenous contribution to our history is still denied or minimised by so many, is the belief that history somehow begins when we wake up in the morning.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

๐ŸŒ First Nations peoples have lived on this continent for more than 2,000 generations.

By comparison, around 96% of Australia's population has lived here for a maximum of just 12 generations - even if you are descended from a First Fleeter, convict or soldier.

And yet, in those relatively few generations, we have witnessed enormous and often dramatic changes that have helped create the society we live in today.

โ“ So how did we get here?

What happened between then and now?
What can history teach us about the society we have created?
And most importantly, what can we learn from the past to help shape the future?

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Join us in reclaiming the past, understanding the present and working out how we can change the future.

Why isnโ€™t there enough money in Australia for essential human services?

Where is the money coming from to fund essential services?
Thatโ€™s a legitimate question. In fact, itโ€™s a very legitimate question to ask.

But perhaps we need to turn that question on its head. ๐Ÿ”„

Instead of asking:
๐Ÿ’ฐ โ€œWhere are we going to find the money?โ€
Shouldnโ€™t we be asking:
โ“ Why isnโ€™t there enough money in Australia for essential human services?

In a wealthy country like Australia, why are essential human services constantly being left behind?

Why donโ€™t we have the resources necessary to meet the basic needs of some of the most vulnerable people in our society?

WHY? WHY? WHY? โ“โ“โ“

๐Ÿ“บ WATCH THE LATEST PIBCI PRESENTATION NOW!
๐Ÿ’ฐ Corporate Welfare v Social Security Benefits

Whatโ€™s the difference between social security benefits and corporate welfare?

The word โ€œwelfareโ€ carries plenty of negative connotations particularly after the Morrison governmentโ€™s attack on social security recipients through the Robodebt fiasco.

But there is a fundamental difference.

๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿฆฝ Social security benefits have been won through decades of struggle by people demanding that the state provide security for individuals and families who, in the majority of cases through no fault of their own, find themselves elderly, sick, unemployed or disabled.

๐Ÿข๐Ÿ’ฐ Corporate welfare, on the other hand, is about taxpayersโ€™ money being channelled through the state to the corporate sector to ensure corporations continue to:

1๏ธโƒฃ Provide services including, in many cases, services that have been privatised.

2๏ธโƒฃ Provide financial resources for their shareholders.

So why are social security recipients so often portrayed as a burden on society, while billions of dollars in corporate assistance can be treated very differently?

โš–๏ธ Corporate Welfare v Social Security Benefits - a simple comparison, but one that raises some very important questions about who our economy and government are really working for.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Why are Australiaโ€™s younger generations going backwards economically?

For generations, Australians could expect their lives to gradually improve compared with those who came before them.

๐Ÿ“ˆ But something has changed.

For the past 30-40 years, younger Australians, particularly those aged 40 and under, have increasingly found themselves going backwards economically.

๐Ÿ  Housing is harder to afford.
๐Ÿ’ฐ Wages are under pressure.
๐Ÿ“‰ Secure employment is becoming harder to find.
๐ŸŽ“ Education costs more.
๐Ÿ’ธ The cost of living keeps rising.

And despite what some political parties would have us believe, this isn't simply about migration, refugees, asylum seekers or crime.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It is a structural problem.

This presentation looks at how the adoption of neo-liberal policies by successive federal and state governments since the 1990s has fundamentally changed Australiaโ€™s economy and society.

But what exactly is neo-liberalism?

And how has it contributed to younger generations being economically worse off than previous generations?

๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ‘ต Elderly Australians: Ripe for the Plucking ๐Ÿ’ฐ

What happens when an ageing population has homes, superannuation and accumulated wealth?

Today, weโ€™re seeing something Australia has never experienced on this scale before - the corporatisation and privatisation of old age.

For generations, Australians have been told to work hard, pay off their homes and save for retirement. Many Baby Boomers have done exactly that, owning their homes outright after a lifetime of paying off a mortgage.

Then came compulsory superannuation in the 1990s, creating another enormous pool of wealth intended to support people in retirement. ๐Ÿ’ต

Now, as Australia's population ages, we are approaching what could be one of the largest transfers of wealth in Australian history.

And where there is wealth, there are sharks. ๐Ÿฆˆ

It's not simply the traditional story of greedy relatives waiting for an inheritance.

Today, there is an entire industry targeting the accumulated wealth of older Australians, their homes, their superannuation and their retirement savings.

๐Ÿก Retirement villages
๐Ÿ’ฐ Financial services
๐Ÿข Private aged-care providers
๐Ÿ“บ Endless advertising targeting older Australians
๐Ÿ’ณ Corporations seeking access to retirement wealth

How many advertisements have you seen encouraging elderly Australians to move into privately operated retirement villages?

๐Ÿšจ Privatising aged care is ludicrous!

What is the most important thing we can do to keep ourselves out of the grasp of the aged care corporatised industry which is causing so much pain and suffering, to so many Australians?
