A heartfelt thank you to this team member from Bunnings Warehouse Australia (Melville) who went above and beyond for our Melville Cares Friendship Club members.

Our group braved the rain for an eagerly awaited trip, only to be met with a torrential downpour on arrival. Without hesitation, this kind team member guided the group to the trades entrance, allowing the bus to park undercover and helping everyone safely disembark out of the rain.

His thoughtfulness ensured we could start our outing with smiles instead of soggy shoes!

Meet Senior Support Worker Amber.

“I love working at Melville Cares because it is very family-oriented,” says Amber. “Being part of a workplace that values its staff and creates such a positive, supportive environment has been incredibly rewarding,” she says.

One of the highlights of Amber’s time with Melville Cares has been progressing into a Senior Support Worker role while continuing to feel supported by her team.

Clients describe Amber as friendly, approachable and always willing to help - she speaks clearly and spends time explaining everything.

Thank you Amber, for supporting clients to live well at home.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, one in six older Australians experience elder abuse and family members are responsible for approximately half of those cases.

Elder abuse is not OK and should not be tolerated, today or any day. Visit Advocare for support:

Have you written a letter lately?🖊️📃

In a wonderful collaboration, Melville Cares Friendship Club and the local Booragoon Primary School Camp Australia OSHC Program have created a Pen Pal program. Each week, students and club members exchange letters, getting to know each other through their writing and drawings.

Many Friendship Club members have enthusiastically embraced the program. Lee, Jean, Jeanne, Iris (pictured below) and other valued club members have been exchanging letters with students from Kindy through to Year 6, building connections and friendships beyond the classroom.

Members look forward to writing and receiving letters, taking great care in their messages and showing genuine interest in their pen pals’ lives. We can’t wait to see these connections continue to flourish!

It is a lovely reminder of the power of simple acts like letter writing in creating connection, kindness, and community.

A big thank you to Olivia Cooper, Service Leader from Camp Australia Booragoon, for reaching out to start this initiative.

We've been busy in the garden at the Friendship Club! A big thank you to valued member Lee for generously donating her beautiful ponytail tree, and to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help dig and plant it.

We enjoyed getting out in the garden and sharing ideas, while creating a welcoming outdoor space.🪴🪴
